In most areas of Canada, as a minimum age, you need to be at least 18. Keep in mind however, the practical age for adoption is much older then that and age is just one small factor that is considered. Anyone looking to adopt must be able to show that they are financial stable, not rich but that they have a reliable job that brings in enough money to support them, their current family and any new members they may wish to adopt. They must also show, if they are in a relationship, that the relationship is stable. You must also show that your home is able to accommodate another child, meaning it is safe, clean and has sufficient bedrooms.

There are other requirements as well but these ones mean that while the minimum age for adoption may be 18, the practical age is more then that given the other requirements.

"Persons eligible to sponsor adopted children or children intended for adoption in Canada must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents, aged 18 or over, and living in Canada."
