I am currently a cop and thinking about adopting a kid, I am single and don't want to get married, what are my chances of adopting a kid? I am financial stable if you are thinking of that but would like to keep my job.Please answer if you have experience or know the answer to this. Thank You.

A friend of mine asked a retired adoption attorney this same question..She told him to take parenting classes, CPR,and to consider being a Big Brother..He did all of those things and two years later he adopted a 4 yr old boy.He said it not only helped him but gave him a better insight to kids.He is now married and has two more children.I hope this works for you too.He is no longer a Big Brother but he is a friend of the boys whole family now.They see each other all the time.Good Luck. |

you do not have to be married to adopt nowadays, just have to find the right agency, as long as you pass your home study and things like that and dont have a crazy background like mental issues you should be ok, just let them know the reasons why you wanna adopt not for being lonely or something but for the love of having a child and raising him/her |

Yes you can adopt. You can start by doing foster care. Go to your local DSHS office and ask when the oritentation is for Foster parenting. They will direct you to DCFS (sometimes it is in the DSHS building). If you foster and the child comes open and all relatives do not want the child, then they will ask you to adopt him or her. The legal fees are paid for by the state. They will be on state medical, so don't worry about future medical bills, and counseling is paid for. |

There are a few states that have recently passed a law where only married people can adopt. However, in foster care...in my state anyway, we do not discriminate because a person is single. I would ask you what are your plans when you are at work and what would happen if you were ever injured (high risk job). In foster are there are actually some children that do better in single parent homes.
Some private agencies may have their own policies regarding who can adopt or not. |
