What are some issues an adopted child might face?

I am an adopted child, and I will share my experience.

I was adopted at birth in 1994. My birth parents knew they would not be able to support me. They weren't married. She had two children. He worked at a carnival, but he wanted to become a taxi driver in Chicago.

They arranged the adoption with my [adoptive] parents (who I will refer to as simply my parents because I think of them as my real parents) well before I was born. I went home with my [adoptive] parents when I left the hospital.

I certainly think it was a responsible decision of them to try and give me a better life. I am thankful to them. I don't feel strange or anything. I am very open about being adopted. I don't feel abandoned or anything. My parents could not conceive children.

This is probably because I was adopted at birth. I have a friend who is also adopted. He was abandoned by his Romanian parents and lived in an orphanage in Transylvania until he was 3 1/2 when he was adopted by American parents. He, on the other hand, is an emotionally unstable person with many personality disorders who constantly feels abandoned, out of place, and is a chronic attention seeker. Most people can't stand him.

It depends on your situation. If you were adopted at birth, there is literally no difference as compared to not being adopted. But if you were older when you were adopted, you get the personality thingies.

Grapesgum, I don't know if you were adopted, but you are seriously being a terribly ignorant person if you weren't.

That goes for most of you. You have no right to speak about what adopted children feel if you yourself are not an adopted child. That's like a male saying he knows what it's like to be pregnant. You are not adopted, you have never felt these feelings.

feelings of abandonment and distrust that other people in their lives will leave them.

Why, because all they know is that their first mother left them. It's unnatural so whey wouldn't they have issues around it?

Feelings of Loss and Rejection....

Why??

Due to loss and rejection or feeling of such by the natural family.

Poverty all over again. This time with a desperate clueless stranger.....

EX... "naught my fault" and her sister.

People shouldn't adopt because they are lonely and coyote ugly....children shouldn't be used to fill the void of male companionship.

Unfulfilled longing to know their heritage and natural family because their adoptive parents believe the "as if born to" myth and close the "open" adoption as soon as the ink dries on the paper (or adopt internationally because they want nothing to do with those icky "birth" familes).

Fear at being AA or Hispanic and having the crap kicked out of out of you every day for being given a "family" or yuppie name like Brendan, Rachael, Copper, or Conner.

Being told to shut up and be grateful for being provided a home that is not in the slums.

Not my fault either

becoming angry and bitter and spending day after day, all day long on YA in the adoption section abusing and attacking people.
