What are the adoption laws in Colorado? Our daughter and her new husband are on drugs and how can I adopt my ?

My grandchild suppose to be born in April. But the parents are on drugs and all of his family are on drugs also but I don't want my grandchild around drug houses or drug parties so what can we do as grandparents. Our daughter's husband says we can't be around them or our grandchild because they know that we disagree with the drugs so please help if anyone knows what we can do.

If the baby has drugs in it's system at birth the children's services should step in. Otherwise you have to wait till the parents do something wrong and alert children's services in your city. Also if you know of a party where drugs are being used alert the police and have them busted. Anyway you want to do it, your daughter will have to be accused and prosecuted for a crime against the child. If you are not willing to put her through this you have no options.

Petition family court once the baby is born. If your daughter has drugs in her system at birth or the baby shows signs of being addicted or harmed by drugs, then child protective services will be brought in. Then petition the court to let you have custody and raise the child. If they don't clean up their act, their parental rights could be stripped.

You can't adopt the baby, until the parents lose custody. They can't lose custody, until the baby is born. Document the evidence of drug usage during pregnancy. When the baby is born, if it has drugs in its system, they may remove the infant from the mother's care. Talk to Children's Services for advice. Essentially, the more evidence the better. The more reports being made from different sources, the better. If the baby is born underweight, and on drugs, the doctor's testimony may carry a lot of weight. Knowing which hospital the child may be born in might help. Pay a visit to local hospitals, and ask them what their policy is on babies born with drug additions due to the mother's drug usage. Plan ahead and talk to the people in charge about what your options are.

unless social services steps in and removes the child or the parents voluntarily let you adopt then no you can't. I would say call social services and explain your concerns. But something to remember, if they remove the child, the state will always look for a family member first to take in the child, but if the bio parents say they don;t want the child with that family member then social services will not place that child with you. sometimes bio parents do this out of spite and the child goes to regular foster parents that are not family members.

Well it seems you've done a fine job raising your own daughter, what makes you think you'll do any better with her child?

Maybe you'd do better to quit meddling in her life. That's probably why she's turning to drugs in the first place...to get away from your over controlling claws.

Do yourself a favor and butt out.
