What are the pros and cons of smaller vs larger international adoption agencies?

Is it better to go with a smaller agency that only works with one or two countries, or with a larger agency that has programs in multiple countries?

I think it is definitely better to go with a larger agency. For one, if they work with several countries, you have more options if the country you are working with falls through. Countries close quite often in the adoption world, or their regulations change and you are no longer able to adopt from there. If you are with an agency the works in many countries, if this happens, then it is easier to move to another country. If you have to switch agencies, you will most likely be out a lot of money. Also, the bigger they are, the more experienced they are. Adoption is one thing you don't want to go through with someone who is always guessing their way through. I so wish we had gone with Holt. I never hear anything but good about them. Our agency was smaller and didn't seem to have a clue what they were doing. As a result, we did a lot of things wrong and actually ended up doing most of the work ourselves. |
