What are the requirements for adopting a child? Are there restrictions?

Doing a project about adoption. Just want to know a little bit more about the process, and if you can be denied adopting a child and why?

When I put links into my messages they often don't work. So I've included the links below.

The first link is an overview of adoption from the viewpoint of someone looking to adopt.

The second is a link to some adoption statistics.

The third is a link to some current ethical issues.

In general a couple or single has to be healthy, financially secure, have an adequate place to raise a child and be emotionally stable.

Yes, people can be denied for all sorts of reasons including: health, criminal history, alternate lifestyles (in some states), financial instability, inadequate housing and psychological factors.
