You would probably need some kind of letter from your cardiologist stating the nature of your heart problems (sounds like a valve issue. Not uncommon at all) and that it would not have an effect on your reasonable life expectancy.

It is important to be very upfront about these things. This sounds like something generally repaired surgically and after that's done, people go on to lead normal lives.

Generally speaking, single parents can adopt domestically and through foster care. International adoption requirements depend entirely on the country in question. Some IA programs allow singles to adopt, others don't.

Health concerns can be deal breakers depending on the agency. Some will turn you down you for certain problems. Just make sure that you offer full disclosure of your issues, and don't try to hide it.

It depends on the seriousness of the problems and the route for adoption you take. Different states, agencies, and countries have different rules for medical clearance.

If there are reasonable concerns that you will be unable to parent the child to adulthood, it'll probably be a dealbreaker. If it's a more minor problem that can be kept under control and will not interfere with your longevity or ability to be an actively involved parent, you should still be able to adopt, though you might not have the option of every agency or country available.

If you get medical clearance, I suggest you consider adopting from state foster care, since there are thousands of children waiting for good homes.

My wife has serious, chronic medical issues and we were able to adopt without much problem. We were honest about it and could show that her medical issues were being managed through medication, lifestyle, and regular doctor's checkups. What was important was that we were able to show that we are capable, stable, and caring.

you can definatley adopt if you have heart issues as long as you can take care of yourself and the child! you have to be over 21 and have a homestudy done and prove that you can provide for the child!
