And also my husband at Iraq right now. Do I can get her without him?so can I get her with my power attorney?whice kind paper work do I need it?

typically the cost from foster is under 2000. which is normally just your lawyer. Most foster care programs work through the paperwork for free, which is a nice thing about fostering. Best of luck!

Our foster to adopt adoption was totally free to us last summer but thats just the way things are in my area. At the same time though, most areas I've heard about in the US and/or Canada are either free or under $1000 or so.

As to whether or not you can do something like this without your husband...I don't think so. They will want to include him in all aspects including the home study, the background checks, the interviews and any training. I wouldn't think that a power of attorney would do. They would need him.

It's very rare a 5 month old would be legally free for adoption from foster care.

Is this the baby of a family member?

In order to be considered as an adoptive or foster placement you and YOUR husband will need to have training and a home study completed before the state will place any child in your care.

As a married couple your husband will have to be part of the home study (there may be some ways to do this if he is deployed I am not sure)

If you are a relative of this baby contact the county DHS office where the child is living and contact your local DHS office to strart to process of the training and home study.

I always recommend anyone who is interested in adopting a "Specific" child to get an attorney.

Generally the costs to adopt a child from foster care are free or very low. It just depends on the case.

When adopting infants from foster care, you usually are responsible for any legal costs, including the cost of your attorney. All of the home-study and paper work costs are picked up by the state. But, if the child is a special needs child or a minority some states will also reimburse your for the legal fees (this happened for us since we adopted siblings). The legal costs, if you have to pay them should run less than $1000.

You might see if the army offers any benefits or legal assistance to cover adoption cases, also remember they you will be able to take a credit for any adoption expenses on your taxes.

I think the legal side, i.e. getting things signed, is not the big problem you will have with your husband being in Iraq. I see two problems...

1) You and he both have to go through a home study, which includes face to face interviews. It is possible that the social worker will excuse this, or that there is some process to handle such cases, you need to talk to your attorney and/or the case worker for the child.

2) You will need to show that you can handle the child while your husband is away. Since single people are able to adopt, I know it is possible, but they do have a higher standard when it comes to showing they can handle being a parent. I imagine you will have the same problem.

Costs do vary but I think on average it costs the adoptee a complete sense of self and shatters the ability to love unconditionally, while depleting the stores of trust. It costs feeling acceptance, and having one's natural abilities and traits modeled.

For the mother of adoption loss it can cost her future fertility, confidence, self-esteem. Sometimes it costs her severe depression and lack of trust in others. There is a toll of resentment her family may bear for not helping her keep her baby.

For the adoptive parents, usually it's just a bunch of money. Oh and some paperwork.
