I think adoption licks monkey snot. No matter what area of adoption you are looking at the child SHOULD be the first priority yet the ADOPTERS are the ones usually gaining. Adoption is founded on loss. The loss of heritage, genetics, family and womb formed bonds for the adoptee and the loss of a child for the first family. The only people who benefit from the start are the adoptive parents. Babies and children aren't grown in cabbage patches! They are conceived, formed, developed, nurtured and born from their mother's body and an infant knows this body intimately.
To say that adoption gives a child a happy life is a generalization. Adoption gives a child a different life. Not always happier or better than the life the adoptee would have had with their first family. All statements like this do is further the myth that all first mothers are incompetent and incapable of raising their children. Most first mothers go on to raise other children and do a damn good job of it. But being that you are only 15 I don't expect you to be able to comprehend the ins and outs of adoption so I'm not quite sure why I wasted my time answering this. |

Jesus. Is it free Kool aid and rainbow day today & no one told me?
The ONLY time adoption is great is when it is foster care adoption. The ONLY kids who "need" homes.
Every other type of adoption is just a way to give infertile people a child, and the way agencies get those babies makes my skin crawl.
Excuse me while I find a bucket... |

Adoption rips apart a family to create another family. The trauma to the natural parents and child is inhumane and should be criminal.
The only time adoption should be considered is for foster children languishing in foster care, and even then, guardianship is a kinder approach. Guardianship doesn't erase the reality of the child.
There are absolutely no assurances that a child will receive a better life through adoption. There are alcoholic homes, broken homes, pedophile homes......with both biological and adoptive parents.
Adoption is all about $$$. Apparently the disney version of how the media portrays adoption is paying off on Y&A. I just can't believe how many people are stupid enough to buy into it. |

Depends on who's perspective you want to look at it from. It might be "wonderful" for the adoptive family but:
Adoption is a tragedy for the biological family and a profound loss for the child BEFORE it is anything else. Many adopted people suffer emotional issues DESPITE happy and loving adoptive families. Adoption reduces the rights of the adoptee (sealed records, changed birth certificates, etc.) from those of a biological child. In the US especially, infant adoption is a $1.4 billion per year BUSINESS based on the sale and purchase of humans instead of the social service for NEEDY CHILDREN it was meant to be. Adoption is a lot more complicated than people give it credit for.
As Can't Stop said, NECESSARY adoptions are one thing that I can sort of support (and even then there is a LOSS FOR the CHILD and I would prefer legal permanent guardianship) but the coercion of expectant parents and the marketing of children is a vulgar practice in my opinion. I have no problem with fit, honest and ethical parents of any kind.
ETA: I am truly sickened by the number of answers that say "adoption is wonderful for people who can't have kids". ARRGH. In other words, adoption is a consolation prize for the infertile. It also implies that someone OWES infertile people a child - which means some poor woman should feel guilty enough to give them one. IT places undue pressure on the adopted child as well to "replace" the biological child that couldn't be created. Adoptees, infertile people and first parents should ALL be insulted by this statement.
Adoption should be about finding families for children who haven't got living/fit family to care for them, not about finding children to fulfill adult's needs and desires.
CHILDREN ARE NOT A COMMODITY. |

This sounds like a 'staged' question, replete with an 'entourage' to only give nothing but positive/glowing answers about adoption. What org is paying (planting) you and/or encouraging you and the others to ask these questions? As soon as see these type of 'questions' in the last few days, I already know what the 'answers' will be. And why so many supposed 'teens' asking so many questions about 'adoption' and/or interested in adoption and the 'entourage' telling the OP,"Go for it"! ? Methinks something smells Anti-Abortion/Pro-Adoption...and it ain't me!! |

I think adoption is totally taken out of proportion! It is just like giving a kid to some infertile stranger who is like "my precious" kind of like Smeagul. But, adoption on occaisions can be great, like abuse. But in teen pregnancy cases, no. It's not worth it. People seem to forget a child is in the situation, and the APs tend to think about themselves too much during the process. The truth is they aren't saints, they didn't rescue a dying baby from an orphanage, they just were next on the list.

I think adoption is great! The people that adopt are giving a child, that might have not had a family or future a chance to experience life in another light and know what it feels like to be loved and have a family so i think its great. I cant adopt because im only 14 but I really want to someday or fostering.
Some people find it difficult to love the child they adopted if they have had children of their own before but I LOVE children soo much always having my baby cousins in my arms taking care of them :) and i think that if i adopted i would love them and im sure when people adopt they think about the child and some parents that adopted say that they knew that they would love the child the moment they saw it.
Well about gay couples adopting i have nothing against that. I think that anyone should have the chance to experience having children and having a family they could love no matter their race and stuff. Especially that gay couples cant actually produce their own kids i think they should have as much priority as straight couples to have kids. No one said that gay couples cant make good parents, in fact they might make amazing parents, that love their kids. |

I think a loving couple no matter straight or gay is wonderful for adopting. I think it shouldn't matter we have so many kids in need of a loving home. |

I think it is marvelous!!! Been there-done that. She thinks that's marvelous too. She is an adult now and has three children of her own.
Josh, I had a happy laugh when you said----"because you're not their real family." I know what you mean tho and it's o.k. My sister adopted too and took GA of two others and the oldest one used to say--You're not my real Mother whenever he didn't get his way or he wanted to hurt her. She would say--am I make-believe? And Josh I love my daughter as much as my bio son--and in fact she and I are closer. I AM her real family--I was there when she screamed, had nightmares, relived all the bad things that others had done to her, encouraged her through counseling, stood by her when others wouldn't. Those are good questions!! |

everyone and i mean everyone should be able to adopt i mean that is unless the couple doesnt have a steady job or a good home adoption is a fantastic idea but i am 100% against abortion |

I think it's great, because there are a lot of couples who can't have babies. It's also a good idea when a mother has a baby, and she can't support it. Instead of getting an abortion, she could always set it up for adoption. I think gay couples have every right to adopt, just like any other person. |

I think its great. For people who aren't ready to have a child to give it to someone else and for people you can't have a child to have a family.
Also, gay or straight, if a couple is financially stable and responsible to handle a child, I approve. |

some children dont always end up happy but i think its something great. if i couldnt have my own children; or was single; i would totally adopt and love them as my own!
gay couples will definately be frowned upon but i think as long as they get a loving home and family that it could be okay.
good luck if youre thinking about adopting! |

Adoption is a wonderful thing. But I also think a child needs a mother and a father. A boy should act like a boy and a girl should act like a girl and not mixing up the two. Its not fair for the child. |

I think adoption is wonderful. Their are so many families that cant have children, that want kids. Yes, i would love them as my own.
Gay couples adopting? that is a hard one. I don't really agree w/ it, but if it was a choice between abortion and gays adopting I would say let them adopt |

you know what ??
im with u on that!! because i think that those poor children suffer a lot and by people adopting them they give the child an opportunity to become someone!
i say this because most orphans end up being bums because they are so frustrated . all they need is love, and adoption makes that possible. of course only ii you are a good dad! but i truly think that yess adoption is a really good thing and people should really look forward to that!!
i myself when i grow up i will adopt at leat 2 kids!
sorry for writing a lot! |
