I really want to know from the people who were adopted from foster care what it feels like when you turn 18 years old and have a chance to look for your first family. It would be family that either had a TPR done on them or they signed over their rights. I would think it would be easier to think they wanted a better life for you rather then having them have a TPR done because of the needed documentation that they were unfit to be your parents. Both sides come to the same point and that has to be hard for the children. I am an adoptive mom of 5 and i want to know what you guys feel like on your 18th birthday. Do you feel like a trader to the people who have taken care of you? Do you feel anger at your first family that someone did not take you in? I really want to know so I can prepare for what I will face in 9 years with my first one. I would think that adoption from foster care would be different then as a baby because you were taken away because they were not able to do it for whatever reason. I do not want to offend but I really want to know Additional Details Thank you for sharing. It makes me a better mom to be prepared then to wait until I am in that moment and I get hit with something I did not want to think about.

ok, so i was adopted when i was 6. i still remember my birth mom. im 16 and plan on finding her. maybe not the day i turn 18, but when i am ready. i was taken away from her because she ouldnt care for my brother sister and I. when i was younger i would say to my mother that i wanted to find my birth mother. i think it made her sad that she thought that she wasn't a good enough mom. but it wasn't that at all. it was i wanted to know where i came from. the hardest thing is in school when we have to write papers on the origin of our names, and why our parents named us what they did, and what our nationality is. i never know. on my birthdays i always wonder, does she even remember its my birthday? or has she "erased" me from her mind. does she just go on with her daily things and not remember? all i can say is to keep encouraging your children to talk to you. answer any questions you can. they need you. |

i came from foster care too. i couldn't search soon enough, but it had NOTHING to do with my aparents. it had everything to do with what I needed to feel complete.
in fact, my parents fully supported my search and it brought us SOOOO much closer than we ever, ever were. it was the best thing i ever did for myself.
i can't stand my first mother, but that doesn't mean i wouldn't do it over and over again, even knowing what i know now. |

I was not adopted but my Dad left me at a young age. My step father was the greatest blessing I could of ever recieved. Even if I could find him I would not want to (even though I really get curious sometimes and just want to know why). I know that my Dad will always be my Dad even if I never see him again and he will always have some wierd area in my heart. However, my loyalties will always be with my step father. He raised me and was patient with me and was and still is my best friend. |
