What film did you treasure as an adopted child?

Growing up I had certain films that I LOVED as a child and still feel like a complete child when I watch them today. Films I loved which covered the topic of adoption were (of course) Annie:

An American Tail I also could somewhat identify with:

But above all, CURLY SUE was the epitome of my emotions! ;-) Not only were our stories similar, but we were identical at the time. (Sorry no comparison of photos available)

What about you, any films you still hold close to your heart?

Sorry but for some of you I didn't mean your favorite childhood movie, I meant your favorite childhood movie that actually involved adoption or being an orphan.

I LOVED the Secret Garden. The movie and the book. I read my copy of the book until it was literally falling apart. I also loved Curly Sue. When I first saw Home Alone I cried when his family left him behind and he woke up the next morning to find that they were gone. I guess I was afraid it might happen to me?

edit: I realize Home Alone doesn't have anything to do with adoption, but I guess I related to it in the way that it tapped into my fear of being abandoned.

See, I COULDN'T watch those movies without crying. All Disney movies had a child who had a parent who was not with them, and it killed me.

Annie killed me!! I still cannot listen to "Maybe" without sobbing.

The day before I left for LA to meet my n brother for the first time, my daughter sent me a text message which read, "...Maybe now it's time, and maybe when I wake, they'll be there calling me baaaaa-by, Maaaaay-be!" I sobbed!!

Rowan
An American Tail. i loved that movie, and watched it. That and All Dogs Go To Heaven. And Sleeping Beauty, that's my favorite. and Bambi!

That's so strange, i never noticed that theres a sort of theme in them all.

Annie and The Journey of Natty Gan. Both about orphans and both still very dear to my heart.

My daughter loves Matilda
and my son
Harry Potter
(he actually has a prominent scar on his forehead from his past with his father which he calls his "harry potter" scar when people ask him about it)

Mei-Ling
Lion King! ^_^

And then Lion King II. (Ever since Lion King II came out, I've favoured it over its predecessor.)

Bambi! Still my all time favorite Disney movie! :)

I was into Franics Hodgson Burnett's The Secret Garden.
I came before VHS and DVD's, but there have been many of these made over the years and I saw re-runs of them on network tv and pbs.

I liked that the heroine was an orphan that was sullen, as I was sullen. I liked that she was totally isolated, as I was totally isolated. I liked that her cousin and she were both misfits, and I liked that her favorite people were not the stuffy pretentious people she was supposed to emulate, but the common peasant folk. And best of all was that they had a secret magic place removed from the ugly world to meet, tend, and nurture the garden plants and each other.

I wanted a secret place like that. to get away. far away from adults. (the book was much better than all the movies)

and there was also her The Little Princess starring Shirley Temple. She gets exploited as a servant as soon as her caretakers think her father is dead. But she never believes she's an orphan, she never gives up hope that he's still alive.

aside from that, my favorite film was Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. I loved the island of misfit toys. I still love the island of misfit toys. So much more interesting. Like all my adoptee friends.

Minnimouse
Lion king I absolutely adored. I think it does have a big theme of family and love in it.

I think Milo and Otus was one too.

Bambi

Balto

American Tail

The Aristocats

I seemed to like movies that were about lost children or animals that had to find their way home again. I think that links to adoption in that I was adopted, separated as far as possible from my biological family and my emotions and instincts drew me back to my origons and I wasn't satisfied until I found them again or at least found the answers.

I can't remember any movies that were specifically about adoption though to be honest.

Edit: oo i can think of one, Peter Pan, I hated the movie, but the play or ballet were really enjoyable as a child. The lost boys were homeless/without parents. I'm not sure I properly registered that though as a child.

Pope Erba I
Every Disney Animated Classic ever.

Also: Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. The one from the 70's with Gene Wilder playing Willy Wonka. I still watch that. ALL. THE. TIME.

Surprisingly, none of these have anything to do with adoption.

gibberish
I adored Annie, and also Oliver.
