You don't state which side of the argument you are making so I am going to provide info for my side. I'll use India since that is the country we adopted from and lived in for three years while adopting.
In many of these countries there are literally millions of children at risk who are living in sub standard orphanages and who have no hope for adoption in their home country.
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/asia/article1627008.ece
Many of these children will die or be neglected in their home countries who are unable to care for them properly due to their society's social conditions or economic conditions.
http://cira.med.yale.edu/research/india_ovc.pdf
Disease, malnutrition and lack of proper care are a major problem for orphans in these countries.
http://infochangeindia.org/20060307241/Children/Features/India-is-home-to-the-largest-number-of-AIDS-orphans-in-the-world.html
Without assistance or through the hope of overseas adoptions many of these children may never make it to orphanages in the first place.

Just because a child is available for "adoption" in a foreign country, doesn't make the adoption any less necessary. First and foremost we are all citizens of the world and we owe it to everyone to think not just locally but globally as well. People who feel moved to adopt will either do so locally or internationally, however they feel moved in their hearts.
ETA: To quote someone else here: "Some people think international adoption is not necessary. But they're wrong. Really? Social stigmas against poor/single mothers shouldn't be changed? The OCP in China shouldn't be changed?"
Of course those things need to be changed but they will NOT be changed over night and could take generations to change. In the mean time, generations of children will suffer and potentially die while we work on the underlying problems. Personally, I'm not willing to wait for those changes to be made and my feelings about that are reinforced and confirmed every time I look into my daughters eyes and see the kind of life she has now compared to the kind of life she would have lived in the Indian orphanage before she died there. And yes, she would have died there. Adopted at 8 months old and weighing only 10 lbs (4.5 kg), wasting away from a lack of care, attention and proper food/medicine.
If she had stayed there, yes she most certainly would have had her culture, more so then she has now no matter how much we can and do try, but she would have been buried in that culture, not living in it. |

How about talking about the little girls in China who are abandoned by their parents because their country has a one child only rule. Boys are more valued than girls. |

if you are going to adopt i would suggest starting with children in your country first. |

calculate how much it normally costs for one family to adopt a child from Africa, including visits/flights etc and then say what that same money could do for the very communities these children come from to prevent the birth of more and more orphans and educate and medicate them.
Then find out the statistics of how many families adopt from Africa.
So for instance "one family can spend over $30,000 in order to adopt a child from the province Bobbalakoo. This $30,000 could have been spent in...this way...and that way.....over 2000 people adopt from Bobbalakoo, imagine what could be achieved if all this money was used to develop a healthy, educated and efficient community. |

Just because a child is available for "adoption" in a foreign country, doesn't make the adoption legal, or moral. |

For it:

Hello Peps

Try there are not any kids in your country that need loving homes so you need to go over seas if you want to help someone.
Or maybe, in other countrys they really don't care who they give the kid too as long as they pay so you should pick one up before someone that wants one for their collection picks it up.
Or my favorite, we cant let Analina have all of them can we? |
