Our last one was a two step process. First the social worker came to our home and sat at the table with my wife and I for a few hours, asking us questions about our backgrounds, our jobs, our immediate family, our relationship, a bit about our finances, our motivation for adoption, our health and our future plans (among other things). She took copies of various documents she had to collect (marriage license, birth certificates...) and asked for three references.
She then left and reviewed everything over the next few weeks. She also contacted and spoke with our references and tried to get a feel for who we are.
She then came back and met again with my wife and I to clarify anything more she needed. She also met with our 15 and 13 year old daughters and talked with them a bit to find out what they felt about adopting another child into our home (my oldest is adopted as well).
Once she had all of the info she needed she drafted a report (in our case it was about 45 pages which I hear is about average) and presented that report to the agency when they had their meeting to see if we would be approved.
It's a more time consuming then troublesome process. Just be honest and upfront with them and hopefully things will go well. Just remember, nobody is perfect and they are bound to find things "wrong" with you but thats ok. They expect things to be wrong and most things are not "deal breakers". It's when you try to lie or BS about something that you are doomed. |

My homestudy was 4 parts. First there was a social worker who came out and checked the house's physical structure and asked some questions about how many children I wanted to foster to adopt and then I had 3 visits from another case worker who asked me specific questions about my life, my relationship with my family members and partner. It was quite detailed and took longer than I originally expected. |

a social worker will come to your home and meet with you, your significant other and/or any children you currently have. They just find out about your life and write a report about you.
My husband and I just got finished with our home study and our social worker mainly asked about our family, ourselves, our ideas about raising kids (like discipline and schooling) and our finances. |

our house is checked 1 time a month and they go through your house and make sure it is safe they make sure you have a fire extinguisher at least 1 window and 1 door to every room that you allow the children oh and running water and safety thingys in the plugs all cleaners locked up in cabinet and medicines too if you have inside pets you have to have their papers on their shots......i know this is alot sorry don't know about adoptions but the ones i listed were for foster kids |

basically the worker will come to your home, I have heard of them doing quick ones right at there office but mainly they come to your home, they will meet with you and who ever lives there, and ask you some very personal questions about your relationship with your husband, your children, and the person at which is the bio of the child you are adopting, they will want to know that you are willing to go as far as you have to, to make sure this child will be not be put in danger what so ever and that you have the same discipling skills that they are looking for in some one, they are about an hour long, and they do ask you questions alone and then take your husband and ask him questions(the same) to see how well you know each other and what you say, |
