My husband and I have recently been talking about adoption. We haven't really spoken deeply into it but I think this may be an option. We have been married for a little while but have been together for 2 years. Although we have only been pregnant once which ended up in a miscarriage my husband (who is 39) believes he will never have children (he has had 4 miscarriages in total). I am 22 and already have a child but I am finding it extremely hard to get pregnant. I know adoption is a long process and would just like any advise.

the proces goes like this:
you want a baby.
there is a pregnant girl.
you pay a lot of $$$ for her kid.
she sells the kid to you.
the kid ends up completely screwed up and angry. |

Hello Sara,
Adoption is a choice and would defintely be great for a child in search of a forever home. As someone previously said Foster Care is an option, www.njadopt.org is the NJ web site for adoption from DYFS. Adoption is different from domestic, international and foster care, however, if you adopt through foster care you will most likely receive subsidy to help offset the costs of raising the child. I always feel that if you do not need the subsidy money take it and place it into a college savings account! Adoption is a wonderful choice, if you want to just adopt let the caseworker know that you are looking for legally free children, however, if you are willing to do foster care then adopt you may have more of an opportunity. Hope this helps but yes this can be a lengthy process. The child has to be in your home for 6 months, with a monthly visit from the caseworker, to ensure the placement is working. An adoption consent is completed and if you go through foster care and the child is eligible for subsidy your court fees as well as home study are covered (between 10 to 15K).

There are a lot of things you need to think about, like if you want to adopt a baby or a child, if you want to adopt domestically or internationally, through foster care (US only) or an agency or private adoption, would you be open to a child with special needs or a sibling group?
