Once you submit a homestudy somewhere, what has been your experience on how quickly the place of interest works to get a child placed? Additional Details I live in Tennessee, and the children we submit our homestudy for are usually out of state.

Are you talking about a state adoption? I am guessing that you are by the question. Texas, CA. and SC. seem to have the most children available. I'm not sure which moves the quickest though. Usually your home state will be the quickest as other states hate to do the ICPC paperwork. |

The quickest state is probably the state that has:
1) the worst support for low income families,
2) the worst economy,
2) the highest number of Christian zealots,
3) big, well-funded adoption agencies.
If you find a state with more than one of the above, you will find people who are pressed against the wall economically with a trap door beneath their feet. |

So quickest is better than most ethical?
Good luck with that. |

When it comes to matching adoptive parents with a child...speed should not be of the essence. In a perfect world it should be a one time shot and it needs to be done correctly. Especially when one stops to consider all of the potential issues a child, especially an older child, may come with.
We've been lucky, both of our adoptions were of an infant (we didn't specify an age and were willing to accept a child as old as 12 so he/she wouldn't be older then our youngest). We have friends who were only adopting older children and were told point blank not to expect it to be as quick as our experience (a matter of months or less in both of our cases). In fact, one social worker told them that it would be considered an undesirable trait if they were to expect things to happen too quickly as it's a life long commitment that is not to be rushed into. |
