more than likely WONT be able to afford the 40,000 to adopt through an agency. Well not anytime soon, and not only that, we don't really want to have to finance a human being, it just feels weird. Don't get me wrong we aren't poor by any means either we're more middle class and military. Not that any of that matters i was just hoping someone might be able to give me a ball park figure before we start getting in over our heads.

Save your money and live a childfree/less life.

Why would you want to spend all that money just to raise someone else's kid?

With $40K you could buy a new sports car, travel around the world, invest it for your retirement, etc.

Most of the time when you adopt through the Social Services everything is free. They handle the legal stuff and the classes and homevisits and everything. You would just have to get the things you need for the child(ren). Call your local agency and find out for sure but every state that I know of has it as free adoption because they need homes so bad for these kids.

in the UK its free, which is as it ought to be. Babies and children are not commodities.

If you're adopting through foster care, it's free in most states. Call your local DHS office and find out what, if any, services you will need to pay for in your state.

We adopted through social services and it cost us nothing, except the cost of getting forms from dr. and police check done. Any addiitional costs have been us buying toys and stuff like crazy when getting ready for them!

In the United States adoption from Foster Care is generally Free or very low cost. We already pay to support the children with our taxes...and stepping up to adopt is Giving back to our country by offering a home for a child--You are already paying to support....

the foster to adopt programs that are common through each state's social services department are very affordable compared to private agency or private adoptions. you will probably spend about $10,000 to $15,000, and don't forget, you get a federal tax credit for adoption. for 2007 it was approx. $11,700 and it goes up about $600 each year. It's a tax CREDIT, not a deduction, so you literally get back all of what you paid in federal tax on your paycheck up to that limit. if you didn't have the full $11,700 in tax liability for, say, 2007, you can spread it out up to five years.

good luck to you!

Usually all costs are covered by social services. You may have to pay mimimal fees up front, but they are usually refunded.

If you have a deductable for your physicals and such you would have to pay for those.

Good Luck!

I am an adoption/foster care social worker....my families don't pay anything!

Well Hun then don't have kids ! cause that is all you do "finance another human being" !!!

It being middle class and military doesn't matter then why mention it ?

I think perhaps it might be best to evaluate whether you really want a child ?...
I would imagine that a person unable to have children would do just about anything to fulfil that wish, certainly its the Jist from many on here..
Sounds more like you are veiling a question on here angling to get a baby on the cheap from one of these desperate young girls on here

My parents adopted my brother and sister for $7,000 and $10,000 so it really just varies. I doubt that it costs that much.

I would really request going thru a center called Bethany Christian Se rives. that is the center i am using to give my child up for adoption. they are very good with everything and they actually take more time into everything than SS does. just look it up on the computer

depends where you are. I have afriend in u.s and the cheapest they found was $16000 and im in aussie and the cheapest is $10 000...this can vary not a flat rate

I am constantly astounded that people pay obscene amounts to a adopt a baby that needs a home.

In the early and mid 70's we were unable to have a child, so we prepared a letter about us as a couple, our financial ability, home life, jobs, anything we felt pertinent. Of course my medical problems.

We sent copies of this to Ob. Gyn offices in our city explaining that we wanted to adopt and should they have a mother wanting to place a baby, we would appreciate their consideration.

We had three results, the first two chose to keep their babies and the third was a beloved baby boy who is now 31.
In our case we payed all the hospital and medical bills, and you would have attorneys fees (our attorney friend handled ours). In our state the adoption went through county services.
So we had previsitation (we waited two months) and drop in visitation after he came home at three days.

It actually was amazingly easy when I look at how hard it is today for people to adopt.

Think out of the box, search high and low, look through welfare services be creative to find that beloved child you want.

God Bless and Good Luck.
