I'm very mixed on it.
On one hand I think it demystifies and humanizes the search experience. Instead of stereotypical stalker adoptees and first mothers cowering in fear of their wayward offspring tracking them down, it shows real people and real emotions.
But at the same time, search and reunion are so complex, and the effects are lifelong. How can that be put into a 30 minute show?
I'd like to see him perform more of a service to the adoption community which has made him so very rich. I know last year was the first season, and the show is very much controlled by WeTV. But if I could improve on the show, I'd like to see him end each segment with a 20-30 second PSA on established adoption resources, such as ISRR.

I think it' a fluff reality show, no different than Real World or The Girl Next Door.
I like how Troy helps all involved, he seems to be understanding of the plight of those of us who are not permitted to see our orginal birth certificates.
It does not really give good insight into the massive emotional swings which occur before, during and after reunion.
If it helps get the word out that it is unfair to withhold our history, then Im all for it. |

I think the show is rather lengthy, but the results are great. I have been searching for my birth mother for 14 years with no luck and have tried everything. I would love to be on that show especially since I not only cannot find my birth mother but from the bits of information I do have it seems that my birth father was never even told about me. |

Oprah stopped reunion shows because they were exploitive. I agree.
People FEED off your pain for ENTERTAINMENT.I don't like it at all. |

I don't like it. Reunions of parents and kids shouldn't be public like that. I think the show profits from people's misfortunes and emotions. I think it's cruel when the host knows information about the family and keeps it from them, until the last minute, then drops it like he's some savior or something. I can't bring myself to watch it. I saw two reunions and that was enough for me. yuk. |
