What is your thought on adopting a little girl from china?

My family proudly adopted my 6 year old sister, Isabella when she was 10 months old. She told us that she loves us and is so greatful she has a forever family. Many people are rude to us about it but I am so glad that we did adopt her. She is the best little sister ever!!!

.
I started the process two years ago. Back then the waiting time between your dossier arriving in China and recieving referral was about 8 months.
At the moment referral is about 3 years, so the whole process(home study, social service inspections etc. ) will take approximately five years or more.
Many American adoption agencies are telling people not to go to China anymore because the waiting time is so long.

The reasons behind the slowdown are unclear, but it seems that the Chinese are unhappy about being seen as a country thet "exports" it`s children. It is thought however that the huge orphan problem still exists.

I myself feel particularly jaded at the moment because it has been such a long hard road and the final goal (a daughter...) just becomes futher and further away. Our dossier reached China in November2006 and predictions say that we will definately not see our baby before the end of 2010...............
When we started we had evbery reason to believe we would travel to China in 2007.

If I can be of any more assistance to you regarding information about the process please feel free to e- mail me.xx

If you can do it go for it!!!

WHATS GOING ON?
I believe it is a great idea. There are many children in need of loving caring parents. All the time I see families with chinese children where I live. It makes my heart melt everytime I see an american family with a chinese child.

Lucky Man.
adopting any child is great.

I think if you already live in a multi cultural local area then it's a great idea, but if you don't, it could be a bit much for the child as they grow, but if you are going to adopt then I think you are a very strong and good person.

I would love to adopt a child from China when I'm older, it's nice to accept a child from another country into your home when they have no family in their own country!

My thought is that it is a wonderful way to grow a family! I support it 100%, as we actually intend to adopt from China in the very near future ourselves (or start the process, anyway).

I think it is lovely!
It melts my heart to see moms with cute little chinese babygirl.
I have three boys and want to adopt one someday....but not quite sure. It is a big decision...my major concern is financial because we are not rich and may not be able to afford the adoption fee. but for those who can, it is such a noble thing to do.

Do your research before you get your hopes up too high. China imposes VERY strict standards this past May regarding age, Body Mass Index, and use of antidepressant medications (even in the past). They claim that they don't want to be an exporter of children (but they will export lead paint toys for the kids that are here).

I support any adoption from any country at any time. I just want you to be informed of the relatively recent changes.

Hi T
A great thing to do, and a great commitment. I know some people who have been out to help with an orphanage, the children there have little prospect in life. But that was around 15 years ago, don't know if things have changed much or not.

i think children all over the world need loving caring homes but, there must be many children in your own country that need this too.

Absolutely amazing idea Think it's fab that more people are considering adopting everyday, my friend was adopted from another country and she picked up english so quickly she is one of the most pleasant people to be around that I have ever met she's not obsessed with alot of stuff like all the other kids are she's just glad to be here I am so glad people aren't put off by the race of the children they adopt good luck If you are gonna do it!

I think benefiting off of a govt. that forces its women to surrender their children is only encouraging it. And while I don't think the children should be left in an orphanage, I think that the country needs to step up and reform their system. I feel that if the children continue to be adopted to the U.S. and the chinese govt. continues to profit off of that financially then, nothing will change. I don't have answers on what is the best thing to do, but I don't think adopting children from overseas is positive for the children either. The trauma, loss of heritage, religion, culture, genetic mirroring and so much more is horrifying.
I suggest going to an international adoptee site and asking the international adoptees adopted from "china" or "korea" what they would have preferred. If it was worth it for them, or how the change effected their lives. I haven't lived through this process, I was a domestic adoption, so for me to speak for a china / international adoptee wouldn't be as valuble as one speaking for him/herself. Link to an active international adoptee site below.

Go for it. I have a little cousin who is adopted from China. Her name is Andrew. I think she's around 1 year or 2 years old now.

Wonderful.

Some friends did this - and were horrified to find a few years later that she was being racially insulted at school for being Chinese. Very sad.

I am all for adopting any child. I adopted twin girls some 19 years ago. They are of mixed race, white / Afro Caribbean. In the UK there are so many children of all races crying out for loving families that I wouldn't even consider going out of the UK to adopt a child. I feel that with so many of the rich and famous adopting from overseas these children are almost becoming a fashion accessory. In my opinion if you want a child, adopt from your own country. After all they say charity begins at home.

We adopted a child, but we did it here. There are lots of kids waiting for homes. I don't understand why people want to help others before helping ourselves

there are poor unloved and abused children in every country not just china, yes some are left to die in homes ,(or so we are told ) some kids in some Latin American countries are rounded up and Culled . if you did adopt a child from another culture would they not feel (that when they get to teenage years ) that it would have been better for them if you had moved to there country and then adopted them so that they weren't losing everything about themselves ?. perhaps you could ask some who have already adopted from abroad if they had to do it again would they. or you could sponsor some children in poor country's for a few pounds a week and give them an education and a full stomach

don't do it. The child could very well be picked on at school for being different. Its not fair to you or the child
