What is your view on single men adopting children?

I'm talking about strait, unmarried men.
Tell me what you think.

Straight, gay, unmarried, widowed.....makes no difference to me as long as they qualify, their intentions are pure and for the good of the child and they are capable of balancing career and family. Come to think of it, thats my feeling about straight, gay, unmarried or widowed females who may wish to adopt. I fail to see where it makes a difference. |

There are too many children in this world that do not have a safe and nurturing home. If a child is lucky enough to find someone to love them and take care of them, then who are we to stand in the way? |

I know that I wouldn't want anyone but my "J" to raise my son if something happened to me. He'd be an excellent father to any child, and when he was single, he tried to adopt his former step-child, who he'd raised but the bio dad wouldn't sign, and this was when he was 18. Unfortunately, in our state, you cannot adopt a child who was formerly your step-child, not even as an adult. |

I would maybe question if a single man was only wanting a teenage girl, but otherwise, they have to be screened like everyone else, and if they can do the job then great.
I am going to guess a single man adopting is best to go through foster care. Well you know my opinion everyone should go through foster care! |

I disagree with the first answerer, just because you are an adult does not make you responsible, I know that if I had a kid right now, I, by myself would be a better parents then some adults.
Why couldn't they? If they want a child desperately then sure, I think two parents is always better, but why not. |

I have no problem with it whatsoever. I know single men are no longer allowed to adopt from Russia because of the horrible case in the U.S. where a man adopted a young girl and molested her (not sure how long this went on before it was discovered). Fortunately she was removed from the home, he is in jail and she was adopted by her teacher. Obviously there was either inadequate screening of this man, or he had been sly enough to never have any criminal record of abuse against children and was smart enough to make it through his home study. It's hard not to let something like that cloud my view on single men adopting young girls, but the reality is that this was a horrible isolated incident. I think some people feel more comfortable with single men adopting boys rather than girls. (Not to say that boys do not get abused, but for some reason people seem to feel more comfortable with this scenario) |

Well, it is always good for children to get adopted and have a home but children need both a mother and father figure in their life. So for a single un married man it is not the best because the father will ALWAYS have to work to support both him and the child so it is always best to have a mother and a father so support and raise the child. |

That's the way men should become parents. It's the only way they would have any rights as a parent. |

Ummmh I know I shouldn't feel this way but, I am just a little uncomfortable with that. As the earlier poster sad it is better then a couple of teens that really don't know how to take care of a baby and are still in the process of growing up themselves. |
