How personal do they get.

If there is ANYTHING that you are not prepared to be 100% honest about, don't apply. Otherwise, you should be fine. They ask about everything. |

They ask your references how you are as a parent, how do you disapline your children, if you have ever been involved in illegal activities. They actually to get pretty personal. |

extremley personal from your race to your religion..also your background...if you have anything on your record it will make a difference.
my friends brother killed himself at age 22...his parents[5 years later] wanted to do foster care..they could not be foster parents for this reason and this reason alone. |

If you check the page on the link below you will find the home study questionnaire that they use in my area (Home Assessment - Family Questionnaire about half way down). They expect you and your spouse to fill it out before hand and send it in. When they come to do the home study the worker will review it all with you and ask any additional questions they need to complete the home study. The workers guide is also there.
While the processes are all different in different areas, they do have many more similarities then differences so this may answer any questions you have. One thing that is standard in all areas though is that you must answer all the questions honestly. If you lie or they even suspect deception of evasion in any way you will be in for problems in the process. They don't expect people to be saints or for their history to be totally clear but they do expect honest answers. Remember, we all have faults and flaws so answer honestly and go from there. |

Relax...the questions are not too bad. Sure, they will ask some in depth questions like your religion, income levels, how long have you been married, smoke, drink, illegal drugs..etc.
The home study itself isn't that bad either. We stressed about it too. We work for two weeks prior cleaning house, getting the yard perfect, and dusting every inch of our home several times. However, the social worker just looked very briefly in each room and the only thing she asked was to make sure we had a fire extinguisher in the house. We did and she left shortly afterwards.
They just want to be able to see that you have the means and living space to raise a child. |

I told my husband that I thought we were ready to be president of the US after being asked all of the questions they asked us!!! They asked us about high school , what kind of students were were, if we had friends! They asked about all brother's and sisters and what your relationship is like with each one. We were finger printed and checked by the FBI, we were required to have physicals. We had letters of reference, they comb your home and ask questions about it. Very personal, but all very relevant! Just put on your tough skin, tell the truth, grin and bear it. It is worth it! :) |

relax, a homestudy is a piece of cake. they are just going to tell you what you need to do to get your home ready. they will talk to you about how you grew up and your opinion on the way you were disciplined. they will also ask on what kind of discipline techniques that you practive. ( remember the words positive ressurance, guidance, etc. ) Remember all states are in desperate need of foster homes. i have been a foster parent for 6 years and sometimes case workers show up spontaneously. sometimes my house is a wreck and sometimes i am aggitated. but they are human and they understand stuff happens. |

Q1: Will you beat the child after we're gone?
Joke, and a bad one, sorry.
It'll be general stuff about your !work-home life balance", i.e. how much time you can theoretically spend with the kid (can you provide a roof over their head, and can you be a parent, essentially).
Now, they'll probably want to know how much you earn, can you handle the expenses of the child, cash flow.
Theyll probably take into account any of your family living nearby, for support, babysitting and the like. |
