What other passions do you have?
|
I have seen a few questions about how are all AP's the same, and other attempts to draw all people with the same brush stroke. Just to ask, what other passions do people have outside adoption/foster care related issues? Can you please identify where you are in the "triad" if you are comfortable when you answer?
Thanks,
jenn

All my passions have to do with at-risk kids, foster kids, and animals.
Everything I do is volunteer work. I spend all my time volunteering because I think the only way to make things better is to be involved and work for change.
I volunteer with foster kids (reading/playing/mentoring/advocating), I volunteer fixing and repairing group homes, I volunteer as a Big Sister, and I volunteer at a Women's and Children's shelter (doing various jobs). I used to be a CASA for several years, but I got too upset with Family Court and it was beginning to take a toll on me.
I also volunteer in an animal shelter walking the dogs and cleaning cages. This is almost therapeutic for me.
I try to give back as much as I can. Those kids have nothing and/or no-one and I try and change that. |

i'm an adoptee. i love to read, you should see my collection of books.I owned at one point well over 500 books, sadly, had to downsize as i moved to a smaller house.
i'm obsessed with music. i'll listen to everything from Backstreet Boys to Beethoven(i love the Appassionata). i'm a avid fan of Law and Order. I love animals, and i'm all about womens rights, and i'm also pro choice.
My mom was blind, so i'm also big on helping the disabled. In school, i signed up to play bingo and just sit and visit with elderly people who otherwise wouldnt have visitors.
I love to write, and actually just finished a fan fiction story for a friend. Have written a few poems too, but they have since been lost in the black hole thats become my storage unit.
I love dogs. I love the history channel, and will watch anything involving the French Revolution and Russia.
Also Randy: Thats awesome! my mom was blind, and i used to help her around the house. How would i got about volunteering my time? i'm in the USA. |

I like gardening and working in my greenhouse. Taking care of things and watching them grow, be they plants, animals, or kids.
I have dabbled in architecture and designing, recently my husband and I completed and moved into our dream home, which we've spent a couple years designing ourselves and having built.
Once my youngest (3 months) is in preschool, I would like to go back to university and study environmental sciences to work volunteering in educating people about the environment: it's beauty, the changes we need to make to keep it functioning, and the interdependence of all life here in the beautiful pacific northwest.
I love my job; I teach riding lessons, occasionally show, and co-own a riding school/boarding/training facility with a good friend. I like spending time getting to know people of all kinds and ages, which I'm lucky the job allows me to do. I love riding and being around animals and kids.
Hmm. Other than that, I enjoy cooking; taking trips; outdoor activities (camping, hiking); ice-skating; shopping is a guilty pleasure; reading; experiencing all the things my city has to offer such as the museums, aquarium (one of my favorite things to do is go to the aquarium!), plays, restaurants and stuff.
Living life to the fullest, basically. Any time spent with family and friends is what I like best, no matter what we're doing.
I'm on two sides of the triad. Adoptee and a PAP/foster parent. Was adopted at age 11 by my godparents. Now as an adult with a daughter of my own, my husband and I are fostering my nieces (children of my older sister) and will be proceeding with adoption when the time to do so legally comes. |

Women's rights. Domestic violence, rape, women's shelters, patriarchal society, etc. I should have gone to school for women's studies, because there's so much I don't know, and this was my #1 focus before finding out all this information about adoption.
Elderly and disabled issues, especially abuse. It's too damn easy to abuse elderly and disabled folks, especially if mental illness/dimentia is present. Believe it or not, I get MORE riled up about people abusing folks with Alzheimers than pretty much anything else. I worked with the elderly and/or disabled for most of my adult life, and when one of my clients would go into someone else's care and get shoddy treatment, I raised holy hell, called family, stepped in (breaking the rules) and did the work myself, etc. These were MY freakin' people, man. Don't mess with my people! Also, my husband and I both have disabled family members who we care for from time to time. It's a very, very personal issue for both of us.
There's more, but I'm at work and really need to get busy. ;-) Those two really top my list, though.
I'm a PAP adopting through foster care.
ETA: Wow. What's wrong with caring about women's rights and elder/disabled rights? I'm baffled. Or is it just that Miz K has signed into each of her accounts to give me extra thumbs down? Ah yes, that makes sense. Well, thanks again, Miz K, for showing how much you truly care. |

I am an AP.
My other passion is stop cruelty to animals. This is one that is so close to my heart that i am scared to champion it too closely as i might end up with a nervous break down if i saw an animal hurt ,abused and tortured.
But i donate to them regularly. I often feed the hungry dog on my street. In America i used to volunteer in the Humane society. In India the conditions of the animals makes me cry and i get nightmares. So i don't volunteer my time just donate to them.
Other than that i love reading. I am very passionate about my books. |

I have a wide variety of habits and passions. My number one is the children in my life, including my 20 year old bio son, my 15 month old adopted son, my stepchildren, and the many children I babysit.
I scrapbook with a passion, and have the subjects that make it so fun.
I'm a DJ, do a lot of public speaking, including raising lots of money for several charities I'm very passionate about. And, I love music, have a grand piano and a violin that I play.
I'm also passionate about horses and animals, and the man in the bed next to my computer, that I love him so much, so I'm signing off for the night. Goodnight! |
