What steps does a single woman have to go through in adopting a baby?

Is it a difficult process and would a single woman be eligible?

You will need to decide which type of adoption you are going to go with. Domestic infant, international or through the state (children that are in foster care and who have had parental rights terminated).

You'll need to find an agency you feel comfortable with if you decide on international or domestic infant adoption. Not all agencies are equal. Some are more ethical than others so you really need to research them.

A home study will be needed regardless of which type of adoption you decide on.

As a single woman there are fewer options available compared to a married couple. Not all countries will allow singles (ex- China). The same goes with domestic agencies that deal with infant adoption. While some will work with singles others will not. Even if they will it will likely be a longer wait to be matched since many bio parents prefer married couples to singles. Not impossible but will likely need more patience.

Adopting from foster care will probably be the easiest route for you since you are single. It is also the most affordable way. Usually well under $1000 compared to international/domestic which average $20,000 and can be much higher. There is less of an emphasis on being a couple compared to the other adoption options. Foster care isn't as scary as some think. There are children of all ages from infant to 18 waiting for homes.

Which ever way you decide to go you should be prepared for more scrutiny. They will want to make sure you can handle raising a child on your own with work and other things going on. Having a good support system will help. Good luck with whatever you choose.

Single women can adopt babies.

Agencies are just a little more hesitant to give a single person a baby than a married couple. Some of them are even denied babies.

Don't be too upset if they deny you a child. They're just doing what they think is right and safest for the little guy.

I really hope this works out for you.

yeah, I am sure you can. I am not sure about through an agency or not. I would suggest foster to adopt through family and children services. You can specify age and all. It also doesn't cost money to adopt through family and children services and those children really need homes. Children through agencies have people lined up waiting on them. Plus agencies charge out the hiney. Also they try to push young girls into adoption. Foster to adopt is just better all the way around. Also they won't have a problem with you being a single parent.

Good luck,
Dianna

A single woman would be eligible in most countries however a 'baby' may not be available. People need to realise that there are children who need homes and just because a couple is infertile it doesn't mean they have an automatic right to have a child.
