What to do with myself, after my real parents died?
|
After i found out that my real mother and father had died, i was devastated. I felt so depressed like i couldn't do anything anymore, if i couldn't find them. i have gotten better, but i keep having these strange dreams that have to do with Harry potter, and my parents dying. ????? how do i overcome these feelings? i just feel heartbroken that i can never see my real mom. i feel alone, and now that school is over i have no one to hang out with. not even my dog can solve this problem. i am going camping tomorrow. could nature possibly make me feel better? i just don't know what to do with myself anymore. I feel missing like nobody can fix it. Maybe i should go to a therapist. NO WAY AM I GOING TO A THERAPIST!!! All my friends will think i am nuts! what can i do. am i depressed. i just watch TV all day and go on yahoo answers. *sigh* whatever, what can i do to make me stop thinking about my real parents that are rotting in their graves right now.
this is a serious question. put yourself in my place. think about it. how would you feel?

Both mine died too. Not together, but it was traumatic and took the heart out of me for a long, long time. I've had tons of therapy, spanning 35 adult years but the ideas I had that I had somehow failed my dad by surviving and not saving him, took a long while to get out and get straightened out. I was only 5.
I WISH I had had therapy as a teen. I WISH. I told my foster mom I needed it, but I couldn't follow through. I SHOULD HAVE. it would have saved me so much wheel spinning. and grief, depression and shame. I think...
Nature can certainly help lift your spirits. Sun and trees and activity and endorphins produced by vigorous exercise will reduce your anxiety and tensions.
The spirit of your parents are all around you, the body returns to earth to nourish the soil, but the wind carries their love and hope for your healing. They do not wish you to grieve and worry more than a short time. They know you love them and watch over you. Put your grief away into a pocket and bring it out from time to time to be with you. then put it away again to go and live your life. |

You have a lot to deal with. Getting therapy does not mean you are nuts! If your friends are your friends they will support your need to talk with someone who can help you sort out your feelings. For that matter, why does anyone else need to know you are getting therapy? You don't have to take out an ad in the newspaper. Lots of regular people get therapy.
This is a huge loss that you are dealing with. It will take time. Look for comfort in any healthy place you can find it: nature, music, prayer, meditation, good friends, support groups, and yes, therapy. |

In my opinion "real parents" are the ones who love, care for and raise the child. Not the ones who gave the child up. Not saying your biological parents didn't love you, but they never parented you. Your friends do not have to know you are in therapy unless you tell them. |
