What to say about Adoption Reform to the State Legs?

So, i have finally secured a meeting with the state legislators. I am planning on talking about new laws I would like to see (Outside counseling and independent legal representation, at least 2 weeks wait period before consents to be signed in order to assure the relinquishing mother has had time to recover physically from childbirth as well as stopped using and mind altering drug prescribed for childbirth ie opiods, etc, a 6 week revocation period to insure time for reflection and time for the mother's hormone level to balance out, and relinquishments signed in court, in front of a judge, after he has questioned the relinquishing parents on their understanding of their rights and consequences of signing the consents.), with legal and medical back up, of course. Is there anything else I need to touch on? Do you think these are reasonable requests? I'd love to hear your opinions. I really want to be prepared.

maybe
I think we need to lobby for an end to altering birth certificates. There is no reason to change a birth certificate, NONE.

An excellent list of points. Good job. You might want to include enforceable open adoption agreements, since open adoption is often used as a carrot by those who have no intention of maintaining contact.

Sounds perfectly reasonable.

I'd also ask if there was a comprehensive list of charities/shelters etc that the first mother hs access to, and make sure that she knows she can get help from them.

Possibly it might help her finances just that bit in cases like those.

Good luck !!

i would extend the time to 8 weeks instead of six. My doctor told me after having my first daughter that for many people, hormones/PPD/Anxiety last the full 6 weeks after having a baby. I think 8 weeks would be a bit better.

ETA// and I agree, no changing birth certificates. I'm planning on adopting, so I'd like my child to have an adoption certificate (which could/would be the legal equivalent of a birth certificate, however the original birth certificate should remain intact and available to the child).
