Socisl worker is probably the biggest. Adoption agencies also have to have accountants, lawyers, nurses etc. A growing need is also financial counselors to help adoptive families deal with all of the costs involved.

All of the above and

School Counsellors (seem to be getting back handers these days by putting teen mums in touch with adoption agencies)

Gynae doctors (seem to ignore HIPPA laws and let paps know about vulnerable young women they can manipulate)

Besides a social worker, all I can think of is a private investigator (track people down) and attorneys. My brothers are adopted and I cant think of any specific other professsion that would be specific to them.

If you are interested in a career with babies though, nurses, nurse practioners and docs, in neonatology are rising. One reason for this is the rates of multiple births going up, somewhat do to fertility treatments. Since multiple births can sometimes be more risky, the NICUs, and level 2's are filling up, which means they need more medical professionals to staff them. Plus nursing overall is just in demand.

Theres is also a job of a county baby nurse, where you go out and help train new parents on parenting.

With a licensed agency, these are the typical qualifications for the key positions.

BSW - Bachelor of Social Work - Caseworker -- can do the basic case management part of the work which involves taking birthmothers to their doctor appointments, helping them with groceries, rent, transportation, bills, child care, family issues, paperwork, hospital stay, etc. and testifies in court.

MSW - Master of Social Work -- Caseworker, Counselor, Director of Social Services, or Director -- does all of the above, plus counseling with birthmother, birthfather, adoptive family.

LMSW - Licensed Master of Social Work -- Caseworker, Counselor, Director of Social Services or Director -- does all of the above plus makes all child placing approvals as well as all approvals of adoptive parents.

LCSW - Licensed Clinical Social Worker - Counselor/Therapist, Clinical Consultant - Could do all of the above but can also provide clinical counseling/therapy which goes beyond adoption issues. This may be on a contract basis separate from the agency.

Of course, this varies state by state, and some agencies do not have licensed personnel or professional personnel at all. Some agencies are run by attorneys or business managers, and then hire the professional social work staff.
