When you started adoption did people "find" you a baby?

This is a weird question i know but i can't help but wonder if others had the same thing happen to them.
When we 1st put out that we were adopting it seems that people were looking for children to give us. I'm not talking about asking strange pregnant women to give their baby away, but rather, we got calls from people asking us to adopt their relatives out of foster care. My mom was talking to a friend who was giving her unborn child up for adoption and gave her our number (I told her not to do this again). And one friend of the family worked it out with her sister that she wouldn't have to have an abortion or give the baby to strangers because we would adopt the baby (we are in the middle of this). And to top it all off I have a friend who doesn't want children and although her and her husband are careful she has it in her mind that if it ever does happen she will just have us adopt (no worries she is careful it is just her thoughts). I don't know if this is common or what. I think it is a complement when people who know you so well trust you so much but it is odd. I hear all these awful stories of people trying so hard to adopt so it seems so strange to me. Did anyone else have this happen to them?

can'tstop- again always a pleasure. I am so happy to see you think i am making this up, because i always asume people are lying as well. If you read the question again you will see it was about people "finding babies" not "giving babies." There are a lot of children in the foster care system and not enough people to adopt them, so it is not strange that i would know someone who wanted us to adopt their grandchildren. The woman my mom talked to never called us, again "finding" not "giving." And the friend who does not want children, again she is not having one. Just talking.
anyways good luck on making the world adoption free.

My SIL and brother 'found' their baby in an odd way. The baby was a day old and her plan was to leave him in the hospital and let him go into the system. A girl that works with a friend of my SIL was talking about it at work and my SILs friend told her that her and my bro had been trying without success to have a baby for 11 years. She called my bro in another state and they were here the next day. The Bmom gave permission right away for them to have custoday of him and signed her rights away within a week. His adoption was final about a month ago and now my little bug is officially one of us.

Wow you're lucky. I've heard it's extremely hard to adopt, which is strange seeing as how so many kids live in poverty or with abusive and neglective parents. I really wanna adopt when I'm older so hopefully I'll have your luck!

Not to me but to my adoptive parents. My mom was a teacher so all the parents new her and new she wanted a baby which made it worse. People used to knock on there door and try to hand them their children. Our family tried matching them up with people who were giving them up for adoption. I honestly think that most people who are going to adopt have families that just try to help even though they might go about it wrong. And strangers may see it as a way to take advantage of people. (many people that came to their door or stopped them in public wanted some large sum of money).
