Who as an AP or PAP has an employer who helped them with their adoption?
Find answers to your legal question.

Who as an AP or PAP has an employer who helped them with their adoption?

Did they provide full leave? Did they reimburse your expenses? Did they provide recommendations for lawyers? Counseling? Refer you to an agency?
Additional Details
I am US based. My employer reimburses expenses up to 7k as does my husband's. Wondering how common that benefit was through private employers. The US military also reimburses up to a certain amount.

I was U.S based when i adopted and was reimbursed around $6-7K by our husbands company.

BTW, why is losergurl being attacked for the benifits her company provided??

After all many companies pay maternity expenses and give paid maternity leave. SO WHY THIS JEALOUSY ?

For our first adoption my boss allowed me the morning off to drive out to the Orphanage to pick up our daughter. I got back to the office just before lunch and he wanted to know if I would be back on time after lunch because he was due to leave early for a golf date.

For our second adoption I was entitled to full paternity benefits including time off with pay (actually, it works out to about 95% of my full pay between my employers part and standard Govt benefits) Thankfully the laws had changed since the first adoption. Other then that, they didn't provide anything.

When adopting in Canada, you are allowed 55% of your income from Ei for a period of 35 weeks.

If you have a biological child it is 35 weeks parental leave that you or your spouse can take, and 13 weeks maternity that just the mother can take.

After that, each employer will decide that they will "top up".

I work for the federal government, and they top up to 93% for the nine months/35 weeks for parental leave (adoption), or the full year for biological children.

It is not helping us with our adoption, it is part of universal child coverage as supporting parenting. Unfortunately, people who relinquish their children (there are not many up here compared to down there) are not usually ones in work like the government. They are often working two-three jobs and do not get any top up.

My husband was given paid leave without notice when we recieved the phone call for the placement of our first child. They were great since we had only two days notice. LOL I just went on unpaid 'maternity' leave, giving them one day's notice. My boss wasn't happy, but I warned them when we first got into the adoption pool thats how it would work. They were floored that a local adoption was even happening! I had to rush out an set up a kids room in one day.

As for expenses, adoption isn't tax deductable in Australia. (From what I see here it is in the states right?)

Lawyers really aren't involved. DOCS have their own people employed to look after the legal side in adoptions, we just pay the court costs. From what I know Bernardo's and centre care (Catholic) work much the same way, they are the only groups outside of DOCS (Dept of community services.) that works in adoption, and they are government regulated.

(Ooopsss that might not help much since your US based...)

Edit; Single mothers are entitled to government paid PENSION here to keep their babies.. they get free medical too. Damn they may have to buy their own maternity clothes and budget for taking time off work like the rest of us... And they get all the same entitlments as a married couple in the terms of maternity leave. (If its paid or not.)

Got FMLA, same as any parent. It wasn't paid time off, I used sick days.

what country are you in?

if america- look up the family leave act for info on leave.

if you need help with finances, perhaps you shouldn't be adopting.

Wow. That's disgusting. Bet your employer wouldn't give a pregnant woman in need 7K to help keep her family intact.

What a country!
