comparing adoption to a burning building? You know the one where the basic concept was that if a builkding was burning down and a mother and child were both in it, we would try to save both.. not just the baby...

It's a great post. But the only question -- who is is that is going to "discourage" "certain" mothers from relinquishing their child? And who is to decide which mothers?

My belief is that, barring obvious deficits or improprieties, if nothing could keep a mother from parenting her child, then she probably should. But, the converse is also true. If a mother is able to relinquish her child, for whatever reason, and chooses to, she probably should.
