Why do i feel bad whenever someone mentions a word like given up, abandon or birth mother?

My friends know i am adopted, so sometimes they tease me, and they made up these words like the G word, which means given up. or whatever, and they repeat those words in a way that makes me go crazy. i get mad and whatever, and then i try to calm myself down. i think when they say these things it makes me remember my past. and they really make me feel weird and sad at the same time. some times they say okay, let's see how long you can hear all those words without Flinching. OMG. then they are all like - you were *abandon* (repeat repeat) in an orphanage (repeat repeat repeat) adopted (repeat repeat) trying to find birth parents (repeat) It just makes me feel bad. why do i feel this way? i guess i just feel bad about me as a little kid.

and why do they do this? just to get a laugh? they are my best friends and they are always there for me, and i really do appreciate them, but why do they do that? do they think it's funny to make a girl sad about being adopted?

THE NEXT PARAGRAPH WAS EDITED 9:05 pm June 20.

I strongly disagree with the posts suggesting that your friends don't understand. At 13 1/2 they should know they are being mean. While you may not choose to dump your friends it is a good idea to look out for good people to hang out with! Of course, you should tell them how you feel. I hope I am wrong and that when you tell your friends they tell you they are so sorry they never do it again. (end of edit)

Good God, get new friends. These people are monsters!! I don't know how old you all are but friends don't hone in on an insecurity as a joke.

Every time they say the G word replace it with Chosen. You were born in your adoptive Mom's heart! Love is what ties people together and makes a family.

I grew up in a children's home and was not adopted until I was 13. All of us had different reasons for being at the home, most of us because we were not free to be adopted. Being around all these kids who were abandon and such, never heard talk like this. I feel your friends are trying to hurt you or make themselves feel more important by mocking you. I think I would get new friends if I were you

Those people ARE NOT your friends. BUT I am not here to judge, If you really still want to be friends with them. Have a serious talk with them. And if that doesn't work tell a guidance counselor. I am adopted (I have never really had a problem with it but I know it is very painful for some people) and I just met my birth mother last year (i was 16) in fact she is coming to visit today! And I happen to have a great relationship with her. I know that not everyone will have that, but think, someday, (HOPEFULLY) you will get to meet her and have her as a part of your life. And those people who are making fun of you are truly bullies and you need to tell your adoptive mother (who loves you VERY MUCH) and have her call their parents because that is NOT right!

Kids can be cruel. And although you ask us to help you understand why they do these things...WHY is always the hardest question to answer. Maybe they're afraid of being more-or-less abandoned by their own parents? Maybe they make themselves feel better by making you feel bad. But sweetie, no one can make you feel bad about yourslef without your consent.

I know it will be hard, but you need to tell an adult that you trust what is going on and make it clear that you need help dealing with these other kids. A parent? A favorite teacher? Your school counselor? A trusted neighbor? Your piano teacher? Someone...find someone who can help you.

Clearly they don't understand how it makes you feel tell them you don't like it and that it upsets you, if they're your friends then they'll understand :)

Cam
Tell them how this makes you feel. If they are true friends they will stop.
