Why do strangers ask me if I would adopt my baby out to them?
|
I had a baby December 23, beautiful little girl. I know they are half joking and half serious about adopting her. I don't understand why people bother to ask me that. They have asked me at work when they a picture of her, at the grocery store, and at church. I mean are these people thinking.
People have asked me each time I have had a child. The most horrifying time was when the RN that helped deliver my 2 year old son asked if I planned to put him up for adoption right after I delivered him. He was a planned pregnancy and had an older sister that was excited about having a baby brother.
But what makes people at the grocery store ask if they can adopt my babies? All my babies are/were breastfeed they don't even like the taste of formula. And it's not just women that ask me it is also men.
I understand that I am about to be 23 in 3 days but I mean I did everything right. I got married, had my first baby, bought a house, had my second baby, went to trade school and got a job and had my third baby and got my tubes tied.
What makes strangers ask if they can adopt your children?
I also plan to become a foster parent in the future, hopefully within the next 6 to 12 months. Additional Details I only did thumbs up, thumbs downs are not from me.
Yes I do look young. I normally get told I look like I am 14 to 16 years old and sometimes like I am barely 18. But I promise you I was born February 16 1986 that makes me 23 in 3 days.

This also happens to my daughter who has a gorgeous little guy. She is in her mid-20s but looks very young (people usually guess 17 yo). She gets all kinds of kooky and sometimes downright nasty comments when she is out alone with her son. When she was pregnant, a woman came right up to her and asked her for her baby. A nurse at the hospital also told her and his dad that they ought to give their baby away.
I think that some people believe that a young parent cannot possibly be a good parent because they apply the negative statistics about young parents to all situations. Often hopeful adoptive parents piss their fertility away by delaying pregnancy into their thirties because of their insecurity and need to indulge themselves. Then they piss and moan because "undeserving" young people have the audacity to deny them a baby. They think that taking someone else's cute baby is their right.
Enjoy those babies. Celebrate looking young. My daughter tells people to shut up and mind their own business or she will call the cops. |

They are narcissistic, self-centered individuals who believe they would be a better parent to your children than you are. How sick is that?
Next time they ask you that, just say, "Wow, that is the rudest question I've ever heard!"
Enjoy your life! ;-) |

It's ageism plain and simple. They think that young people shouldn't be fit to parent. How silly really.
The reality is that the early twenties are actually the prime time to become a parent, it is when women are most fertile. Unfortunately, many women are delaying motherhood until it is too late. Perhaps they are just jealous.
Keep your head high and know that the people who would dare to ask you for your baby are the ones with the problem, not you. |

Before I ever considered adopting, I had seen a cute child in a shopping line, and jokingly said, "If you don't want her, I'd take her home" or something like that. To me, it was in no way a solicitation for a child, or an insult to the parents, it was just a compliment in a way, that I thought their child was very beautiful, and that I'd love to have one (even though at that time, I was NOT wanting to adopt).
Now that I'm better educated about adoption, and am an adoptive parent, now that I have the world's best father to raise a child with, I'd never dream of saying that to anyone I didn't know. For all the naive people out there, who've said the same thing, trying to be complimentive, I'm sorry. |

Slow down there hon. Your baby is very young. Are you sure you'd be ready to foster and take care of a small child at the same time?
Any anyway,it might be because you look young,or they are just joking. |
