Why do they charge you to adopt a kid?

Yeah i know but the people who work to get them all ready have to get payed! Who else will pay them? Its not cheap to feed a kid and buy all the stuff that he/she needs and the people who get the children ready need some money to. I wish it was free. More people would adopt then!

Not all places charge you. Adoption through foster care is free.

The adoption industry is a 5 BILLION $$ + industry.

There is no money in keeping families together, but there are big bucks in making "forever families".

I'm recently in reunion with my 20+ year old son. He didn't go to college, doesn't like to read or write (his amom also told me she hates to read/write!), he spends an inordinate amount of time on the computer illegally downloading movies and music...Gosh, I guess I could have given him all of that and more. The idea of a "better life" is really just a fantasy that some paps and aps live. And yes, you have to pay for the fantasy, and so do the rest of us.

Not all adoption agency cost that much. The adoption agency that took my grandson only charged the couple 3 thousand dollars of course you have to be sealed and involved in their church and get a letter from the bishop. This adoption agency don't mind going around the fathers. I just wonder what bible they use the most I thought it says thou not steal in the 10 commandment's

Why, because cute little newborn baby's are in such high demand. It's kinda like selling them to the highest bidder. If you truly want to give someone "a better life", then look into adopting from the Foster care system. There is relatively no cost to adopting from Foster care. But don't expect the "clean slate" that you would get with a newborn...

What's even crazier is that if they just gave the mother the money they 'charge' you, she might be able to keep her child.

And who says you can provide a 'BETTER' life? What would make you a better mother than the one God chose for the child?

I agree. There shouldn't be fee's involved because all it does is increase rapes, kidnapping, coercion,fraud, lying and manipulation of healthy babies/toddlers and their mothers. There would be thousands of children that would be spared the trauma of adoption in general.

I'm clueless as to why PAP's and AP's are not making much of an issue out of this and are happily handing over the money. Spending $20,000 on adopting a child in a 3rd world country would cover theirs expenses well into adulthood.

Most agencies are non profit, but they still have to pay for their staff, rent, advertising, counseling, office supplies, literature, etc. Who do you think should pay for it? Definitely not the poor women already giving their children away.

For international adoptions there are homestudy, physical exams for adoptive parents, foster care fees, medical fees/tests for the baby, attorney and adoption agency fees, visa/embassy/passport fees, notray/certification/authentication of documents fees, transportation fees, etc.

Not sure about domestic foster care fees...

We would all like to think that we're all contributing out of the goodness of our hearts and "love will make us free..." but in the real world, it takes time and money to take care of a baby, from start to finish (time you pick up your child). The fees that my wife and I are paying to adopt our little girl are for things like services (homestudy, agency fee, etc.) that come with basically hiring someone to tell you what forms and paperwork you need to fill to legalize things. Then of course there are the fees that are incurred at the international side of either a foster home, or adoption center. All of this is money. Does it really cost $30K for say 12 months of care for your child and the "information" that is needed to adopt, probably not... but I would say it's about $20K if you factor in food, time, diapers, etc. to take care of your baby until you get her/him.

An Adoption Agency is not operated by donations and therefore charge for many different things,one of them being a thorough back-ground check for the potential Parents! Attorney fee's and far to many things to mention here! Under the Law Children may not be placed in a Home that is questionable or it would be nothing more than a Slave market, where Babies were sold on the open market!

Yeah I dont get it either. Maybe so they know the kid is going to a home that can afford to support it. But then again, that could be accomplished by finding out where they work lol so idk. Maybe more children would be adopted if people could actually afford it.

well if u think about it, if nobody paid then they would be giving kids for free, which means any person can take them, with the money u give them, it shows trust and it shows you rlly care about that child, plus the money can also go help the other lessfortunate children in adoption
