You answered your own question.
The majority of people who adopt ARE caucasion, therefore their idea of a "perfect baby" (even though I've never heard anyone actually refer to the preferred race as "perfect), is a baby who is also caucasion.
Now you should be able to see where these people are coming from, since you obviously have no problem with people wanting to adopt babies of their own race. : ) |

People who think this I believe ideally want a child that looks like them. I tried to adopt a hispanic baby. Guatemala closed on us at the time. We adopted domestically. Told in the us almost impossible to adopt a hispanic baby as they are not up for adoption often as they are give to family members instead. So me a half white half hispanic gal adopted a white baby. Do I think my son is not perfect because he is white. No way I love him and by the way he has my nose ;.> |

I really don't care who or what adopts who, Black, White, yellow, green, blue, Gay, Straight as long as the child ends up in a happy loving home.
But let me ask you a question, why when a Black person wants to adopt a White child other than their own race, they are given a hard time? But when a White person wants to adopt a Black child no one makes a big deal of it? Answer that for me. |

I think "many" people who say that kind of thing want to make THEMSELVES seem more desirable. "Oh everyone wants a baby just like me".
My son happens to be white, and I am Hispanic. If he would have come out different, It wouldn't matter to me. I adjust my life to include his and my daughters needs. |

I think it’s mostly about majority, currently there are more Caucasians adopting then minorities.
I don’t think it’s horrible for someone to want to adopt a white baby because they themselves are white. Many times people don’t want to stick out so having a child that is the same race is going to have less chance of that. The larger picture is that these white babies are few and far between unless they are willing to take an older child, there are many older white children in the system but again most people want an infant. Obviously if someone felt they could not handle adopting outside their race or feel it would not be in the best interest of the child. Then they should not adopt a child that is not the same race as them.
Frankly I think all babies/children are special regardless what race they are. I myself have decided if possible I’d like to adopt mixed raced kids being that I am mixed raced myself. So I guess some would like at that the same as a white person wanting a white child. That is only a thought I had with in the past year that I have become more involved in my Multiracial network. I wouldn't turn away a child simple due to their race. |

I believe that all children deserve a home regardless of race. With regards to the "perfect child", I believe that the definition lies in the eyes of the parents. My child is the "perfect child" in my own eyes. To some, he may seem damaged or unhealthy because of a medical condition, but makes him no less "perfect" in my eyes. |

I think people should be honest with themselves about how good a parent they can be to a particular child. I think any child should be around others of the same race/ethnic group. In some communities this is not possible, and not all parents would be good a facilitating this kind of environment for their child. So in that case it wouldn't be a good idea for parents to adopt a child of a different race. Also some people aren't really comfortable with the attention you get when you don't look like your child. People do say rude things, and you have to be prepared to deal with this. Some people just wouldn't be good at this, so it is easier/better for them to try and adopt a child of their own race.
I don't think people are good or bad based on the child they choose to adopt. Now if they say "i don't want to adopt an xyz baby because I don't like xyzs" then I think that is bad. Hearing someone say "this is the only kind of baby I could get" makes me feel sick too. Transracial adoption is a little more difficult than same race adoption, so I don't recommend people jump into it without considering the implications. |

I think they just want what fits their idea of the perfect family. I got a lot of strife on my question regarding adoption preferences. I think foster kids face more than race issues, there is disabilities and gender and age that all play factors.
I prefer a girl without physical disabiities and I would like for her to have black in her blood line. I want an older girl between 4 and 10 because they dont get chosen alot. I dont want any older because my oldest is ten and I havent got that far in my parenting and dont think I am ready for a teen.
I say go with your heart, regardless of race. Everyone has their reasining for everything |

You should not be worried by what people think, a lot of people believe stereotypes that are annoying, a son is a son, without caring the color he has.
Looks at the case of couples that they have children with dawn syndrome, them equal loves its children and not to be different.

I don't really thin that's the feeling anymore. If parents want to adopt I don't think the race of the child or the race of the parents matter. I think on this form a lot of people say s*** that they don't really believe just to get a rise out of all of us. |

I am offended by the term "white". I prefer to think of myself as a peachy-pink.
Perhaps the anti-adoption squad on here are a bunch of hateful racists who think cute little white babies should languish in foster care like cute little black, biracial and hispanic babies...you know to even the score.
Or perhaps it is the old "white-guilt" creeping in.
One post they say your dreaful for wanting to adopt a white baby. Then in another your a monster for wanting to adopt out of your race.
Folks on here can debate race all they want while I AM raising two biracial relatives and one hispanic relative. If you think these kids dwell on the difference of our skin tones your delusional. They are just happy to have a safe place to live, food on the table and no man trying to touch them at night. |

to adopt in the us is a long process so therefore people tend to adopt overseas due to major over population. maybe that is way people consider white babies priceless. |

I think it depends on the motivation of the AP, in my opinion.
I've said it over and over, that transracial adoption brings with it unique challenges. If an adoptive family looks seriously at those challenges and decide that they are unwilling or unable to meet them, I cannot fault them for choosing to adopt within their own race. That's not about finding the "perfect" baby, but about recongizing their own limitations.
Which brings me to the second group: the "We would be happy to adopt your healthy, white baby." group. I doubt that these PAPs looked hard at transracial adoption issues. It could be that they have no intention of telling the child he/she is adopted. It could be that they want to pass the child off as their biological child. It could be because the PAPs do have some racist feelings. I cannot say. But my first instinct is to question the reasons behind their decision to adopt a child of the same race exclusively. |
