There is a lot that is controlled on the state level, so I feel it's important for us to be sure to write our state legislators first. But when we're done that, as long as he's asking on his website for our ideas, I believe why not let him know?

He has stated that he does.
He has said in public forums that he wants parents to have more rights and, unlike McCain, he wants bio parents to be given more time and less loop holes. He was referring to a particular case where a mother signed away her rights, but never named a father on the BC. The mother changed her mind within a week, and told the father within 2 weeks. The father AND mother both petitioned for the baby to be returned, but that state requires only a mere 15 days after delivery for a father to be named on the BC. Because it had been more than 15 days, the father wasn't given back his child and the mother had already signed away her rights. Obama believed that this law was harmful to parents....and, in reality, awarded adoptive parents over bio families.
Obama has frequently talked about poor and low income families, social services, education, healthcare. The fact is, MOST people who have abortions or give up their children are parents who feel they cannot raise them financially/emotionally. By supporting our parents, it will necessarily allow MORE parents to keep their children, more parents to have access to medical care, education, and resources so that they are more apt to take better care of those children, and so that fewer children have to be placed outside of the home.
As for promoting adoption, he hasn't said too much, as he feels the focus should be on keeping families together when at all possible.

Ibanika Bond, the mother you are referring to, spoke to Michelle Obama in a meeting and it is on youtube. She is a smart lady, and she is working like mad to get her baby home. She got attention, at the least!

God I hope so! If it wouldn't be for the adoption on the 20th of this month - my son would be "celebrating (blech)" his FIFTH year in Foster Care on the 23rd!
