Would it be a good idea.....?

To, instead of actually having children, adopting?
I like to hear people's opinion because I like to hear what they think about it. I personally think it would be because the world's already over-populated and because I think it might be a little too painful to have children, but I wouldn't know...

I believe it all depends on the person. Personally, I cannot wait to adopt a little boy since my family is full of females. Perhaps later on I would adopt a litter girl. However, I still would like to have a couple biological children. Overall, it does not really matter if they are adopted or biological as long as you can with a whole-heart give them the love, care, and nurturing a child may need.

I have 5 kids, and the pain wasn't bad. Like "CantStop" says, the pain of childbirth is nothing compared to a lifetime of not knowing who my family really is.

There is a difference.

Children enter the world via birth. SOMEONE has to go through labour pain, in order for there to be a child at all. If you aren't prepared for that to be you because of that pain, you need to seriously look at why you aren't willing to make that small sacrifice for your children, and/or why you are prepared to ask another woman to go through on your behalf what you don't want to do yourself. If the pain of childbirth is a primary reason to consider adoption, I would respectfully suggest you aren't ready to be a parent, because you aren't prepared for the giving you'll need to do on a regular basis. Being a mother isn't easy, labour pain or no labour pain.

As for the population issue... it's complicated, and not really affected by individual decisions to adopt or procreate. You should do more reading on population issues before just throwing that out there as a reason, because adoption isn't a significant factor there. (More important are the need to decrease infant mortality rates, increase the education level of women, and make access to contraception available.)

Adoption is a good idea if you want to provide a loving family to a child who needs a home. If you want to be a parent, and have love to give. NOT because childbirth is distasteful or because of a simplistic understanding of global issues. The choice to adopt is not one to be made lightly.

No. First, the world is NOT overpopulated. Childbirth is not that painful. Ive had 3 kids. Not even close to the pain of being separated from my first Mom my entire life.

If you're talking about adopting an older child from foster care, sure. If you're talking about adopting an infant or a child from a foreign country, no. Remember, if you adopt a child, someone else had to go through childbirth so that you could be a mother. It's really not ok to ask that of someone. However, older children in foster care actually need new homes. (I specify older children because most people are trying to adopt babies or young children from foster care...that demographic really isn't in need...older kids are, though.)

i truly love children, but i have to think to adopt. i have a child myself and it is very hard challenge. remember that most of the children that you can adopt have been abuse or have come from addicted mother or fathers and that affects the children behavior. it is a more harder challenge.

Ouch!

I can understand your reasoning on the world being over populated but wanting to adopt because it might be a little too painful to have children is a terrible reason to adopt. It isn't a good idea to think it's okay for another woman to go through pain just to produce a baby for you. Best advice is to grow up first and ask natural mothers what it is like to surrender a child. It's not all peaches and cream.

I think the good idea is doing what is right for you. Some prefer to have children, some prefer to adopt, some prefer to not have any and some wish to have them but are unable. What ever is right to the person is what they should do.

There is nothing wrong with adopting. You are right there are so many kids out there that need homes why not give them one. My mom saved my life adopting me.

IF a woman freely chooses to give up her Parental Rights, AND the Father ALSO gives up HIS Parental Rights, I do not see a problem with it.
I would think that giving a child a chance to have a "life" is a generous act of an adopting person, or Couple, or FAMILY. Having the love in your heart, is admirable. To consider THIS, over ones own "ego" of bearing a child is honorable. BUT, to adopt, to avoid any pain in child-birth, is selfish. I will not say,"it's not that bad", I will never know, and I DO realize that SOME births are more difficult than others.
Just MY opinion. Think about it.

I was there when my mom gave birth to my little sister, and I'm positive that it hurts. I, for one, want to have 1 or 2 kids and then adopt some. There's a LOT of kids that are homeless, etc. So why not help them?

Amber
I think it really depends on the person. I really think there are MANY children out there that need a loving home and parents and there are so many that are needing to be adopted. So if you have a big enough heart to take on another persons child, I think you should!

Having A baby was the worst pain in my life! I'd never do it again!

i am a huge fan of adoption. my nephews was final thursday after 14 months of waiting waiting waiting! If I ever decided to have children I would adopt for selfish and unselfish reasons. Id want to give a child who is otherwise without a family a home and loving environment. I dont think i could handle watching my body get destroyed and stretched out. (no one attack me for the destroyed comment, almost every woman i know who has been pregnant referred to her body that way at one time or another after she gave birth)

Porchae
In my personal opinion i think you should adopt because your giving another chance to a child they didnt have with their parents, and it wld help this wold alot.
Also yes we are to populated, and this world needs more help then anything rite now!!!!!
YES! i think you should adopt

michscarp
Well, if you do not want to go through the pain then adopt a child if you really want children of your own. I mean think about it. Those other children not living the life you are living .They need a family and you can probably be a part of it.

Here's one website I found.
http://www.adopt-a-child.org/

you can probably look up some more if you don't know where to adopt a child .

whatever choice you make will be fine.
