My parents and I moved to the states when I was younger but I was born in France. My wife and I only have the choice of a surrogate or adopting. She hates both options really. But the more I think about it the more I'd like to adopt a baby from France. Any benefits to that? Or would it not matter any? Additional Details Sole US citizenship yes. Pity really. I would have loved to adopt a French child. I don't think that should determine whether or not I'm American.

Assuming you have sole US citizenship now, the fact you were born in France really wouldn't make a difference. France doesn't actually offer international adoption to US citizens, so unless you were trying to get custody of a blood relative, you'd have to move back to France to adopt there anyway. Not all countries adopt out children abroad, and France is among those that don't.
If you decide to adopt, there are actually benefits to adopting in the United States. There are tens of thousands of children waiting in foster care in the US... and the US actually does adopt children out abroad, so some foster children are sent from the United States to France to be adopted. There would be no point or benefit in trying to bring a child the other way even if it was allowed.
However, if your wife "hates" the idea, I suggest you not adopt at all. It's unfair to bring a child into a situation where he/she is unwanted by one parent. Adoption is a decision you and your wife have to make together. If you are not BOTH committed to it, it's better not to adopt, because all adoptive parents really need to have their hearts in it. |

No, you're not entitled to a French child. They won't allow it.
Adoption isn't a matter of feeling entitled to help yourself to a kid, it's about find homes for kids who need them and you'll find plenty free for adoption right on your doorstep via social services.
Perhaps consider moving to France. |

They are not your ONLY options. Here's 3 more.
You could remains childless.
You could sponsor children.
You could sponsor families and their children. |

If she hates both options, then you have to wait for her.
Do NOT bring a child into your family who will be second choice. |

I agree with Fabre; adopt from your own country because of the large number of kids in need just outside of your door. But hey, what do I know, I'm only 14. But good luck and I hope that your are happy with your choice and have a good relationship and a good time with your new child! :] |

If you consider yourself American, adopt from this country because too many people are adopting from other countries even though there are thousands of children in need in this country. If not, go ahead I guess |

You can adopt a child from any country as long as you have the funds to afford it. It's definitely not cheap.
Why only surrogacy or adopting? I assume she can't have children of her own. If she hates adoption why adopt? If you do adopt, she needs to be in it 100% otherwise a child will not feel the love that they need. |
