are there policies in place with foster care or adoption agencies anywhere that protect infants and children from losing their twins (or triplets) through adoption? i understand that with foster care, there may possibly be reasons to separate, but that would be very extreme situations, and the exception to the rule. i have heard and read that social services tends to try and keep siblings together if possible. it seems like twins would be doubly devastated by being separated.
also, do you think there should be a law restricting or outlawing the breakup of infants and children from multiple births (twins and triplets, etc.) where you live? Additional Details thanks, Rosie. i figured there would be instances in foster care where multiples would have to be separated, sad as it is. in such cases, i can see how there is no other option.

We had severely neglected triplets in the care facility (orphanage) that I worked at that they were trying to keep together but each child was so very damaged from malnourishment that their lives were at stake. Each one needed lots of one on one care, surgeries and hospitalizations. It was decided to place them separately at least in foster care to not overwhelm the families. |

Twins and triplets are kept together the majority of the times and it is the goal to keep siblings together in foster care. With the shortage of foster homes that is not realistic. Lip service just doesn't get it done.
Lots of people say how it should be but very few are willing to jump in and do it. |

I hope so. I was adopted with my twin by the same adoptive parents, but from what I gather, my case was one of the lucky ones. |

I do believe there are protection laws of some sort for twins, multiple births. I know they try very very hard to keep them together in the Foster Care system. |

Where I live, they really, really try to keep all siblings together, multiples or not. I don't know if they do everywhere else or not, but there is a LOT of effort gone through to keep sibs in the same home, even if they have to sacrifice legal permanency, which they sometimes do. |
