how do i find my child that i gave up for adoption?
|
ok so 33 years ago i gave my child up for adoption, because of a bad marriage, and because i love her and did not want her to go through that, well i'm trying to look for her on the internet nad all the sites i have found say you have to pay so much money but i don't really have money to do that so does anyone know how i can do it for free without signing my credit card number or can anyone do it for me? Her birth name is Autumn Rene Campbell and she was born on Feb. 4th 1977 in Elwood, Indiana but i don't remember what the adoption agency was! so can anyone PLEASE help?

I am a mother that surrendered 45 years ago. Almost 11 yrs ago I searched and found my daughter, with nothing but my maiden name, her birth date, and the name of the hospital she was born in. It would help if you could really try to remember the name of the adoption agency. There is a chance that your now adult child may have left some contact info there. You can request your non-identifying info from the agency...though more than likely will not have your adult child's adoptive name on these papers.
I was lucky in that I found a *Search Angel* (on the internet) in my state who found my daughter in just a few days and I was speaking to her on the phone just a few days after that. You have to be careful about those asking for money up front...I wouldn't do that. There was no fee, but she did accept *donations* AFTER she found my daughter and I was more than happy to give.
I am hoping for you that some mothers here are reading this...who also are searchers or know how to put you in contact with one. And don't listen to the nay-sayers here who will try to dissuade you from searching...do it..one way or another your adult child needs to hear from you. Just be prepared that she may refuse contact..even if she does...leave your contact information and keep your door open...while there is life there is hope. DO NOT contact the adoptive parents firstly, should you be able to get information. Your daughter is an adult now and neither of you need permission from the aparents to speak to each other. If you choose to you can contact me thru email and possibly I can find someone to help you
Wishing you much success in your search! |

Sign up with the Registry as soon as possible, even if your daughter is looking for you she won't be allowed to get any info without you registering also (I know, I lost 19 years with my mother because of these dumb discriminatory anti-freedom-of-association laws)

start with the adoption agency and then like someone suggested try networking websites such as facebook or myspace but it may not work if she has been remarried and hasnt listed her maiden name. You can also search by age. Here is a list of Autumn Campbells I found who are your daughters age:
http://searchservice.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=sitesearch.results&type=People&qry=Autumn%20Campbell&g=B&srchBy=All&minAge=31&maxAge=34&d=25
Blessings and hope you find her and have a good reunion :) |

9 times out of 10 you doing your own search won't work being as though her name was probably changed. The only thing that I can say stayed the same is her social and her birth date. I would say the only way to really find her would be to pay money or try calling the locater. I was adopted ,but at an older age so I was fortunate to know my biological parents. I also know once I got adopted not only did my name change ,but also my parents names on my birth certificate. The adoption agency won't help you at all especially if it was a private adoption. It was hard for me to find my brother and I wasn't the one that gave him up. They didn't want to give me any information and they really couldn't. It's against the law. Finally I talked to someone that helped me ,but still wouldn't give me any information. She called his adoptive parents and gave them my phone number. All that to say is that if you don't have any money it probably won't happen unless you contact The Locater or a talk show. I hope this helped. Good Luck on your journey , Hope this helped ,and God Bless! |

Do you remember WHERE the adoption agency was? That could be a start...if you know where it was, then you can start there with an ad in the local newspaper that says something to the effect of "Hello! I am trying to find the daughter I gave up so that she might have a better life than I could give her at the time. Her Birthday is February 4, 1977, and I called her Autumn Rene...if this may be you, contact me at: yourname@live.com" or whatever email address you wish to set up for this purpose.
Good luck.
Do remember, however, that it is up to her to decide whether or not she wants to meet her Bio-mom. Don't be hurt if she thinks of the woman who raised her as "Mom," for to her, she was.
SUPPLEMENTAL: She would not have had an SSAN when she was given up for adoption. The legal requirement to file for an SSAN for a newborn child didn't go into effect until much later. (Until 1986, an SSAN was not issued until a child was about 14, then from 1986 to 1990, any child age 5 or over had to have one in order to be claimed as a dependant for tax purposes, dropping to 1 in 1990, then soon after birth.) |

You got to go back to the adoption agency and they will have the records. If you were her would you want to meet mum. You gave her away then. |
