ok, i have a couple questions about adoption?

1.) who gets to name the baby; the birth parents or adoptive parents?
2.) do the birth parents get to choose who adopts their baby?
3.) if its a newborn, when do the adoptive parents take the baby home?

All three are entirely within the control of the natural parents, who are the only legal parents until finalization of an adoption. |

1. The adoptive parents can change the name the birth parents give at the time of adoption though it does not always happens. I kept the name my son's mother gave him.
2. If the birth parents find adoptive parents they like and are going with a private adoption, yes, they certainly can choose. They can Also choose through an agency.
3. An agreement can be made in advance as to when the baby will be taken by the adoptive parents. My son's mother kept him for two months and then we took him in our care under guardianship before adoption was finalized. |

1. The adoptive parents will choose the name they wish and the original name will be changed---in most likelihood.
2.IF the child is placed by an agency the agency will determine that.
3.If the child is under the CPS at time of birth or shortly thereafter the new foster parents will take the baby home from the hospital and will have the right to adopt if the parents do not follow their service plan. |

I'm in the UK so am basing my answers on that fact.
1.) who gets to name the baby; the birth parents or adoptive parents? - natural parents choose a name for their baby as they have to register the birth. I named my son and his adoptive parents had chosen a different name so when they adopted him they changed his his first name but kept his middle name as that is also his adptive father's first name.
2.) do the birth parents get to choose who adopts their baby? - no generally unless they let someone/a couple privately foster their child for a year minimum then allows them to adopt. However if this happens a social worker still has to be involved as private adoption is illegal.
3.) if its a newborn, when do the adoptive parents take the baby home? - after 6 weeks maybe longer than that as a mother can't consent to surrender until the baby is 6 weeks old so the baby usually goes into foster care for that time but it still takes 5/6 months in all before the adoption is finalized. |

1) once the baby is adopted they "new" adoptive parents chose the childs name.
2) yes, birth parents can chose who adopts the child. this is called an open adoption where birth parents can even stay in touch with the adoptive family, if they chose to.
3) the adoptive parents can take the baby once the hospital lets the baby go, and once adoption is final. |

Assuming we are talking about a baby, not a child who has already been in care...
1) The adoptive parents name the child, (although some like the name the mother gave the child)
2) Not always. It depends on the kind of adoption ,"open" adoptions are when the mother gets to meet prospective adopters while she's pregnant.
3) As soon as the baby has been given a clean bill of health at the hospital. |

1) depends on the mother.. usually if you meet the mother before she gives birth, the adoptive parents will choose the name.
2) the birth parents do get to chose who adopts their baby. The adoptive parent hopefuls make a little scrap book about themselves that the birth mother can look through and chose who she thinks is the best
3) if its a newborn the parent get to take the baby home within 24 hrs to wait if the mother changes her mind, it all depends on the mother and the situation like it its an open adoption, etc.
hope this helps :) |
