does anyone have any information on how to expedite the process in obtaining information on realatives that were adopted in NYS? Anyone with any connections in this area would be greatly appreciated

New York State does have a registry, but it is one of the worst. Over 95% of the people registered have found their lost families without it, and are still waiting for the registry to "match" them.
Usually I recommend the state registries for searchers, just so that they can know they've tried everything. However in New York, it's a complete waste of time.
Instead, be sure you're registered at the International Soundex Reunion Registry, the oldest and most successful FREE mutual consent registry. You can download the forms and learn more here:

It depends. If it was a closed adoption you will have to go through either the adoption agency or the courts. I'm assuming it was. Exactly who are you trying to get info for? If you were not the adopted person you can't get any info on their background. Only they can. |
