Am I an American citizen?
Find answers to your legal question.

Am I an American citizen?

My grandparents were Irish US citizens but moved back to Ireland so my parents and I are Irish. Am I entitled to citizenship through them?

It's a little more complicated than that. Your parents may qualify for us citizenship through the blood of your grandparents. however, you may not if your parents never lived in the u.s. prior to your birth. When you say your grandparents are you referring to both your maternal and paternal grandparents? It's a complicated issue. A lot of questions need to be answered first. best thing to do is have your parents apply for the u.s. citizenship. See if they can apply for you to derive citizenship for you. If they cannot they should be able to immigrate you to the u.s. as a lawful permanent resident. after that you may qualify on your own merits after 5 years. you should speak to the u.s. consulate citizenship services division. they will have the answers that you need. you may or may not be. there just isn't enough information provided by you to decide.

If you were born in the United States, then the citizenship is a birthright. However, if you are simply a descendant from a citizen, you might have to look more into that. I doubt that you are a U.S. citizen, especially if you were born in Ireland. Look into getting a green card...

Have your parents filed for us citizenship? if they have then you can get yours. if they have not you will have to go get yours on your own the hard way or... have your parents file for citizenship and then you will get yours easily

Your parents are not US citizens and neither are you. The fact that your grandparents are, only means that your parents would have to apply for a green card to become citizens in 5 years, and then you could apply for a green card as a daughter of an American citizen. (A green card is a permit to travel to and from US and indicates your decision to become a citizen and live in US).

If your parents are American citizens, then you are an American citizen. You may have an opportunity to change your citizenship when you turn 18, but where you were born does not matter if your parents are American. It is foreigners who have their babies in America that have the ability for the baby to claim American citizenship.

if your parents get their US citizen papers done (they are citizens from their parents) then they in turn can file papers on you...
you are not considered a citizen unless your parents file first.. You are automatically a citizen if one or both of yoru parents are US citizens no matter where you are born.. So your parents have to file first..

No, only if you were born on this land

Yes you probably are. Children of US citizens are US citizens no matter where you they are born. Some legal forms would probably would have to be filed.

If you were born in the U.S., yes you are an American citizen. If you weren't then you aren't an American citizen. However, you can become a U.S. citizen by taking the citizenship test and taking the oath to become a U.S. citizen.
