My mother was born in the UK and holds a duel citizenship. My father was born in the USA as was I. They were married before I was born. I am trying to go live in the UK but I am not sure if I can get a British Passport. I have my American citizenship and I am 21. Can I get it????
Please let me know, and don't leave any a-hole comments please this is serious for me.

I was born in England (have a british passport) My family moved to South Africa 31 years ago - i have two daughters born in South Africa - (ages 23 and 12) both are holders of British passport / and south African passport - Dual citizens - you should definitely be able to obtain a Brit. passport. - all you will need is a copy of your mothers birth certificate to prove she was born in England. My childrens father is not british. Years ago the blood line had to be the father - but not anymore it can be through the mother as long as she was born in UK |

You didn't state in your question if you still currently reside in the USA.
If so, you would need to approach the British Embassy in the USA with all your questions or you could try the British Identity and Passport Service. Their website is: http://www.ips.gov.uk. This organisation is an executive agency of the Home Office responsible for issuing UK passports and ID cards.
Another good organisation to try is the UK Border Agency. Their website is: http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk. Just search for British Citizenship and it should come up with some info.
Can I assume that perhaps your father might have attained British Citizenship by marrying your mother, who was originally born in the UK ???I think if your father had British Citizenship, you may have a better chance of getting British Citizenship, then you can apply for a British Passport.
Because it works that way in Australia, where I'm from.
If your father or father's family were born in Britiain, you can get a British Passport. But if your mother was born in Britain, I think (don't quote me on this) but its near impossible to obtain a British passport that way in Australia.
