I do have a german passport and have now lived in the US for over 13 years. I do have a permanent resident card from the US. I do not want to give up my german citizenship because my parents and the rest of my family still live in Germany and I would like to obtain the american citizenship as well for better career opportunities here in the US. My husband is american and we have two children together.

German citizenship is automatically lost when a German citizen voluntarily acquires the citizenship of another country. To this there are two exceptions:
1. When the German citizen acquires a nationality from within the European Union, Switzerland, or another country with which Germany has a corresponding treaty.
2. When permission to obtain a foreign citizenship has been applied for and granted in advance of foreign naturalisation. The relevant form is called a Beibehaltungsgenehmigung. |

America allows dual citizenship. I am not sure how Germany looks at dual citizenship. |

Yes. Germany and the United States allow dual citizen ship.
My wife's Dad is American, her Mother is German. She was born on an US Air Force medical flight from Germany to the US when the plane was over international water. She was automatically a US citizen, the plane is considered US territtory and her Dad is American. She is also Automatically a German Citizen, her mother was German. Since the plane was over internation water, her mom and dad recieved a birth certificate from the US State Department, and the US Air Force. The Air Force certificate, signed by the Doctor aboard the plane, and its entire flight crew is very nice. It shows the longitude and lattitude of the plane at the time of her birth, imposed over a map of the Atlantic Ocean. |
