He may have been a UK citizen when he married your mother, but what was his citizenship at the time of your birth? Was he still a UK citizen, or did he change his citizenship when he married your mother? If he was a UK citizen at the time of your birth, you con prove that, and you are under 18, you should have no problem obtaining a UKI passport at the nearest British consulate or consular section of the Embassy. If you are over 18, you would have to see if your potential claim for UK citizenship is still valid, or did your parents claim only South African citizenship for you? Again, check with the British consular officials, being sure to bring your original birth certificate and all additional documentation you have regarding your father's citizenship at the time of your birth.

I believe you are eligible for citizenship, because your father was a UK citizen as long as he was all through his later life.

It would have been only a problem if you mother was a citizen, because women were not allow to pass down their citizenship rights to their offspring. But there was a petition sent to the house of commons by the BBC on behalf of a british citizen who married a south african man and had a baby in south africa, but divorced and moved back to england, but her daughter could not apply for 'naturalisation' because there was an old law allowing males only to pass down there citizenship rights to his children. But I remember this being changed because this lady brought this unfair law to the attention of the BBC.

depends on if he was a British citizen when you were born. Here it gets a little tricky. Depending on the dates South Africa did and didn't allow dual citizenship but it may have been allowed by exemption or permit... I would contact a solicitor for this one!
Of course if he never became a citizen of South Africa and remained a British citizen then you need to file the paperwork.

If I remember my European Government correctly, A lot of Europe (Specifically the UK) use a system called " Jus Sanguinis" which is latin for right of blood. This means that a child of someone of Scottish descent would be given Scottish citizenship status provided Scotland follows the Jus Sanguinis practice. Currently there are three methods for attaining citizenship abroad. Jus Sanguinis (already discussed) Jus Soli, and naturalization. I Believe, though am not certain, Scotland follows both Jus Soli (Right of soil) and Jus Sanguinis. Which would mean you would at least be eligible for a passport from Scotland if not one from the UK because Scotland is a part of the UK. Hope this helps.
