Any advice for helping a friend to be able to stay in the US?
|
A friend of mine recently got a letter from INS (???) Immigration saying that the renewal of his "temporary" citizenship is being denied. He has been here for ten years, originally from El Salvador. His family and friends are here and he doesn't want to leave.
The reason they are denying him is because he's gotten 2 DUI's. One in 2005 and one in 2007. As a mother I realize how dangerous that is and how horrible it looks to a judge. I am not condoning it at all. However, I don't want to lose my friend and want him to be upset, leave his family and get senty back to El Salvador - I mean he is American now, he's been here long enough, pays taxes, etc. We have to write a letter to INS (or whatever they are called). Any suggestions on what to include? Ideas that can help him plead his case? Please. Additional Details His family is here. He does not send any money back there. He is not mooching off the system like all the people on welfare who lie or are just plain lazy and don't work.
I understand the criminal part. DUIs can kill people. I see that as his main and only fault though. Other than that he is a good human and is not a bottom-feeder.
I guess I will tell him to find a lawyer and I will write him a good reccomendation. If that fails, I guess I can visit him in El Salvador. :-)

He'll have to see if he can apply for a pardon. People can write letters on his behalf stating that he is a good citizen and person. They can send the letter to his congressman. Get an immigration lawyer ASAP. Once he gets deported..its going to be rough trying to get him back. Don't let him get deported. |

It would be nice if you can truthfully say that he went to rehab and attends 12 step meetings regularly and had other people(from the rehab, counseling or 12 step meetings) to write and back this up. To be honest, I don't like the situation. He is not a citizen and he has broken the law twice?? Don't think it's good |

He is not a citizen. He is a lawful permanent resident, who because of his actions made himself unable to remain in the United States.
It was his actions that have created his problems. He knew the conditions of his staying in the United States, and yet continued with his actions.
He will be removed from the United States. |

he was here for his time, and messed that up. making money from our country and paying taxes is not really all that bad, and it does not make him an american. he has more then likely been sending that hard earned dollar to his country to help his family out, in turn that is hurting us. not that i really care, but it does take away from the american that is trying to survive here. i do not know anything about your friend, and i am sorry, but this country is not doing so well anymore and it is time for it to open up it's eyes to us now. we need to take care of us now, and stop getting involved with other countries issues. got to stop sending our jobs out to other countries as well. lets face it, we need to change, and soon, or we are going to be called some other country. this is a fact. sorry again, but my kids will need to survive someday as they are born in this country. |
