Anyone from the UK applied for a US Visa to attend college and get refused?

im currently situated in the UK and went to an interview at the US embassy in London today.
I explained to the interviewer my intentions on what i want to do, which was to go to college for a period of time to get a degree, with the possibility of in the future working in the US.
I think i was misunderstood as i got refused with the interviewer saying my intentions did not match the visa i was applying for (the visa i applied for was the correct one).
I have been accepted to the college in the US, and have recieved a i20 form. The college semester starts on the 14th of jan and now im stuck as if i cant get a visa then no college for me.
I am looking for some support or info that will help me in my dilemma, and maybe if anyone has been in the same situation as me, what did they do.
After today's refusal of the visa, it has left me very sad and im starting to panic, as i do not have much time.

All you can really do for the moment is reapply. Looks like the interviewing officer heard the part about working and then couldn't hear anything else. I'd say if you do go back, emphasize your intention to focus on your studies. When you're asked about the work bit, make sure that you make it plain it's something you're thinking about, if you can find someone willing to do the sponsorship papers so it can be done legally. And, as a university grad, trying to get a middle class position, it would be stupid not to do it legally. Strictly speaking, the interviewing officer is supposed to focus on your intent at this time. Are you going to study, or not? and who knows, four years from now, you may feel very different. However, getting the original decision overturned may be problematic. All you can do is try, and hope for the best. |
