Arrested in a foreign country?

I was arrested for possession of cocaine in a country in the caribbean. My friends set up a lawyer to come speak with me and he recommended that I plead guilty and just home for a fine even though I wasn't exactly guilty. I had an altercation a few months prior with a local individual where I ended up punching him and knocking him down. No legal action resulted from that but to get me back he had his friend set me up. The guy took off my hat, walked behind the bar, i followed, got my hat then the guy handed me something (coke) i was drunk and took it and as i left from behind the bar i was arrested by undercover cops. I explained this to my lawyer, but he gave me the advice I already stated. I ended up having to pay a 3,500 fine, but that was only money. I ended up being kicked out of the medical school which I was only 3 months from finishing. I have since spent 10,000 on a 'good' lawyer and am appealing the case. So you know... the 'drug' was never tested in court and I asked to take a drug test to prove I didn't do drugs, but no one wanted to hear it. My question is how will this affect me in the US? Is it possible for me to get a license to practice? I know if you are convicted of a felony things can be difficult, but this is a completely different situation. This has been the worst experience of my entire life and I really appreciate any insight.
