As most real estates are purchased through mortgage, without any proof of income or credit, it will be extremely difficult for you to settle the transaction unless you pay all at once. |

The ownership of a house in the United States does not give you any special rights to stay here. You will still need to apply for admission each and every time you enter the United States. You will still have to be admissible to the United States. You will still be limited to the time that you can stay in the United States. |

Yes, you can purchase real estate, if you have the money. As a non-citizen, non-resident, you cannot get a mortgage. There are no restrictions on foreign ownership of property in the US.
Living in your property poses serious problems, however. If you own property in the UK and purchase a condo to use for business trips, or a winter home in Florida or some such, you can probably convince immigration to issue a multiple-entry business visa or use your Visa Waiver Program to sun yourself for a couple months once a year. Otherwise, you will have problems proving your ties to UK are sufficient and you will never overstay.
If it is an investment, as so many Brits do, real estate companies can manage it for you -- lease it out, collect the rent, etc. Their fees are steep, but it still can be lucrative with the right property in the right location. |
