I have been searching around trying to find answers for this, and I have a difficult time getting someone on the phone so maybe you all can help me out here.
I am currently living in California, USA. I am going to Tasmania, Australia in November to visit my boyfriend, we have known each other online for a year. If I obtain a tourist visa, and we get engaged while I am there, will I be able to apply for a fiance visa and stay in Australia with him? What is the length of a tourist visa?
I am unemployed and I am in a horrible loop for getting on disability here in the US. Problem is we can't show we have lived together for two years, because we haven't. I also can't move on skilled migration because I don't have enough points as I am not employed and I can't show I can financially support myself. My boyfriend will be supporting me. Can he sponsor me? How do we go about doing this? I am leaving Nov 7th. Going back/forth between countries would prove difficult, I am looking for a way to be able to go there and stay there with him.. but it's difficult to prove you are genuinely in love to the immigration department.
Any serious help would be greatly appreciated. Flamers, please go somewhere else.

The Los Angeles consulate does not give me any information, I have to call a visa/immigration info line for the embassy in washington dc. I always get a recording or they say I need to talk to a visa officer who is not there. I am continuing to try to call. I am trying to find out some information in the meantime.
He is an Australian citizen, born there. He is not looking for a free ride into the USA, I want to go there, but I don't want them to think I am marrying him just to get into Australia.. because that is not the case. He is paying for my trip out there and expenses, and is currently supporting me by sending me money. I have family issues right now and basically moving to him is my only option left, and I don't have much time to prepare to move. It's either try to move to Australia with him, my only family right now, or be homeless in America.

Who are you calling? You have to obtain official word from the Australian Embassy or their consulate in California, if they have one. I suppose that is an expensive trip and you don't want to end up there and then be told you have to back.
Your boyfriend already is there. The people you speak to will want to know if he is an Australian citizen or from another country. Otherwise, they cannot give you correct answers.
Keep calling and writing and don't wast a lot of money by going there without knowing you can stay.
Other than the official part, are you sure he wants to stay in Australia? Maybe he wants to marry you to get entry into the United.States. For your sake, I hope not, but men face this all the time when foreign women say they want to marry and they really just want a visa to the USA.
If he does want to come to the USA as your husband, there are other laws and regulations he needs to be aware of, as do you.
