Birth Rights, how is it worldly accepted?

Some countries accept individuals born in their territory to be legal citizens and others go solely by the origination of the parents. Could this be a world problem of definition in accordance with ones own nationality? What happens to children with parents of two different nations, as what is common to UN and peace workers? Is this why there are people without a country to call home?

Some countries grant citizenship by birth. For example, if you are born in the USA, you are an American citizen, no matter if your parents are not.

Some countries grant citizenship by blood. For example, if one of your parents is Spanish, you are considered Spanish. There is a well-known case of an American who went to Spain to visit relatives and was conscripted in the army because he was Spanish by parental blood.

Stateless citizens are something different. For instance, in Kuwait, they did a census around 1926 and another around 1951. If your family is not on the census, you were not Kuwaiti. However, they did not take a census of the Bedoun, who are nomadic Kuwaitis (Arabs - as Kuwaitis might argue they are "not" Kuwaiti) who live in the desert around Kuwait City proper. These Bedoun, though their ancestors have lived there for many years (or hundreds) are stateless. They do not have Kuwaiti citizenship and are not entitled to the benefits that Kuwaiti citizens get.

I hope this helps put it in perspective.

Different nations have different laws. UN and peace workers never need visas to live anywhere in the world.

The US is in the minority of countries that allow that any child born within her borders is automatically a citizen.

As far as I know, in every case where the parents are from different nations, the child is automatically the citizen of one if not both of those nations. The parents choose which country the will register their child with. I'm in that situation right now. I am pregnant and my husband is not Amercian. Furthermore, we don't live in the US (my country) nor my husband's country. Our child will be a citizen of both countries.
