British Passport Help!!!?

hi,

i wanna go on holiday this summer so thought i'd apply for my first british passport, i currently have a indian passport, but thought i'd go for a british one now,

i was born in the uk, 1987, and have lived here all my life, yet i was not given a british passport, because they needed my mothers passport at the time of my birth to prove she was legal in the uk.
she was legal, because shes been in the uk since 1975, with her parents. so they needed to see that passport, unfortunately my dad tends to throw away all old documents and he did with her old passport. now without that i can't get a passport,

why i have no idea, since i've provided my birth certificates, drivers licenses, my parents marriage certificates, the lot, and still dont get one.

they said the only way i could get one is to get British naturalization, which is gonna cost from Â£450-750 which i cant afford, and why should i pay if i was born in the uk.

can anyone help me out or ive me some advice on what to do?

You can't get a British passport unless you are a British citizen. A passport, amongst other things, proves your citizenship, and the documents required to get one are those that prove your citizenship.

Being born in the UK in 1987 you are not a British citizen unless one of your parents is a British citizen or is "settled" in the UK, and none of that documentation you mention is proof of that. They DO need that passport or something else that proves your mother had Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK - that's what settled means for this purpose. Even your mother's lost passport would only be any help if it was a British one or it included an Indefinite Leave to Remain stamp or sticker.

Furthermore, India does not allow dual citizenship so you can't have any other passport if you have an Indian one. If you become a citizen of any other country or get a passport from any other country, you automatically lose Indian citizenship and your right to an Indian passport.

If your mother isn't a British citizen, then she's going to have trouble herself if she ever comes into contact with British officialdom if she doesn't have a passport with the ILR stamp in it.

What I can suggest is, if you don't mind losing Indian citizenship, getting in touch with the UK Border Agency. Contact details are here http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/contact/contactspage/contactcentres/ and get in touch with the Immigration Enquiry Bureau. Telephone or write as they won't answer questions on individual cases by email. What you want from them is a letter from them addressed to your mother confirming that she has ILR and when it was granted to her, because your dad threw out the one she had before. That should be sufficient for the Passport Office to be able to see that you are a British citizen under British law.

You need to prove to the authorities that you are entitled to British citizenship & in order to do this you must show that your mother either had Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) or British citizenship at the time of your birth.

Since January 1983 nobody born in the UK is automatically a British citizen unless their parent(s) are British, Irish or considered to be permanently settled (have ILR) at the time of the child's.

You've apparently failed to provide satisfactorily evidence of your mother's status at the time of your birth which is why you've been denied a passport.

Your choices now are either to seek advice from a solicitor specialising in nationality law & see if he can scare up duplicates of your mother's papers or take the advice you were given & apply for citizenship by the naturalisation process.

hi im an egyptain and i was born in UK in 1987, at that time the queen didnot allow for foreigners to have the UK nationality, but i want to have it. how do i can get it? thanks
